Shorashim Weekly Updates and Reminders

This Week in the Torah / Parashat Ha-Shavua
This week's parashat ha-shavua/Torah story, comes from the Book of Shemot/Exodus, and is called Tetzaveh. Learn more about it here.

Please remember...

1)  Cell phones are prohibited during Shorashim hours. If your child must bring a cell phone to Shorashim, please know that we will ask them to power it down until dismissal. Our learners are trying to focus on each other and on the learning that is happening here every day. Thank you for helping us by NOT trying to communicate with your child during Shorashim hours and preferably by having them leave their phones at home. You can always reach us and your child by calling the office. When Shorashim is in session, Jean is always available to answer your call.

2) Early pick-ups are disruptive but if you must pick up your child early, please leave a few extra minutes to have us call them upon your arrival. We will not call a child to the office until you have arrived and signed them out. I'm sure we can agree that every minute they are in their learning space is valuable and we don't want to waste their time by having them wait in the office.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work hard to partner with you in the Jewish education of your children.

Snow Days Protocol Reminder
In the event of a weather-related closing:
  • On Sundays, the decision to close Shorashim will be made by 7am.
  • On weekdays, Shorashim and Havurat Torah will be cancelled if either White Plains or Scarsdale public schools are closed. If those public schools are open but decide to cancel after-school activities, we will also cancel Shorashim and Havurat Torah.

We will relay this information to all our families by the following methods:
  • There will be an outgoing voice message on the Education Department’s School Closing Hotline, extension #158, (select extension after dialing the temple’s main number).
  • We will provide this information to Channel 12 news.
  • An email will be sent to all our Shorashim and Havurat Torah families.
  • We will make every effort to post closings on the TIC website.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, we are here for you. Contact Lisa Schwartz at 914-948-2800, x122,
