Mobile Flu Vaccine Clinic Jan. 19
Dallas County Health and Human Services will offer a free flu vaccination clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 19, at the South Garland Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

Seniors and adults 18 years and older can receive a flu shot at no cost during this time. No vaccinations for children will be available.
Register Now for the Annual Sweetheart Dance
This year's Sweetheart Dance is set for Saturday, Feb. 2, at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center in Downtown Garland.
 
Dads, granddads and uncles... watch your little one shine while enjoying dinner, dancing and a professional 5x7 photo!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration: Jan. 19 and 20
The NAACP-Garland will host its 30th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, f ollowed by a special MLK Commemorative Program at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.
 
The weekend celebration will continue Sunday, Jan. 20, with the 2019  Garland MLK Youth Extravaganza at 4 p.m.

City Holiday Hours and Services: Monday, Jan. 21
City of Garland offices, utility customer service, tax office, libraries , recreation centers and senior centers will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

The recycling center, transfer station and C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill will also be closed Jan. 21.

There will be no disruption in trash or recycling collection. 

Pete's Dragon: Watch the Film and Make a Dragon!
Children can enjoy a free screening of the 2016 film Pete's Dragon at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway BlvdAttendees can also make their own dragon out of colored paper cups, pom poms, googly eyes, and red, orange and yellow streamers.

Pete's Dragon is rated PG and relates the adventures of an orphan boy named Pete and his dragon friend Elliot.

No registration is required, and all ages may attend. Free popcorn and water will be available while supplies last. Click here or call 972-205-3933 for more information.

These furry friends are available for adoption at Garland Pawsibilities, 813 Main St., or Garland Animal Services, 600 Tower St., during normal operating hours. Visit GarlandAnimalServices.org for hours and more information.

City Council Election Filing Deadline
Feb. 15
Interested Garland voters may file for a place on the May 4, 2019, City Officer General Election ballot for the offices of Mayor and Council Districts 3, 6, 7 and 8.  Anyone interested in candidacy must make an appointment with the City Secretary's Office to submit their application for a place on the ballot before the filing deadline of Friday, Feb. 15. Candidate packets are available online here For more information and updates, continue to watch the City of Garland Election website .
