FROM THE CHAIR
Together We Thrive
Rachel Bardis 2018 Chairwoman
"You get out what you put in. If you want more, give more" - Jeanette Jenkins

We have all heard a version of these words before and they ring true in every area of life.  When we join the North State BIA, we are saying that we want something out of it.  We want connections, representation in local governments, education, celebrations and so much more - but the association only thrives if we are involved.

We are all busy. Sometimes it feels like there are not enough hours in the day to get done what needs to get done, but we have to do more.  Go above and beyond because we are all fiercely committed to seeing us grow as companies and as an industry.

There are so many benefits that the BIA offers to us, but none of them would be possible without the councils and committees, which include, Associates Council, Builder/Developer Councils, Membership Council, Sales and Marketing Council, Trade Builder Alliance Council and HomeAid Sacramento - most of which are ultimately represented on the Board of Directors.

In addition to joining a council or committee, sponsorships help put your brand in front of your peers. Being a Chairman's Circle sponsor or sponsoring events will help expose your brand to potential clients.  The more you sponsor the more attendees will recognize your company and be able to identify you.

Lastly, in 2019 the BIA is bringing back the BUILD program.  This year-long program helps develop young professionals within our industry into the leaders of tomorrow.  Previous participants in this program have gone on to sit on our Board of Directors, be named part of 40 Under 40, and become division presidents. This is a great opportunity for you to nominate a stand out employee.

As I approach the end of my year as Chair of the Board of Directors, I want to encourage each of you to become more active in the BIA.  Serving in this capacity allows you to be in the room, so you can offer up your insights and input as we work together, as an industry, to confront the challenges we face and to proactively create new initiatives that will drive our industry forward.

Get involved in the BIA and see what happens.  The BIA facilitates the events and programs that allow us to make connections and develop professionally, but you cannot stand out unless you get involved. The energy you put into your BIA membership, you will get back tenfold.

COMMUNITY
Help Victims of the Camp Fire
The building industry is always there to help those in need. That is part of what makes our industry great, we band together in times of distress.  Right now, we need to band together to help the victims of the Camp Fire, which continues to grow.

As of Monday morning, the Camp Fire has burned more than 110,000 acres and is only 25% contained.  With several more smaller fires burning across Northern California, resources are spread thin.

We are asking that our members help victims of these fires by donating or getting involved with the  American Red Cross Gold Country Region, who are doing so much to help the families who have lost family members, homes and have suffered from these fires. In addition to the donations our members make, the BIA will also be making a direct donation to the American Red Cross.

In addition to the BIA's donation, HomeAid Sacramento has donated $2,500 from HomeAid CARES for emergency relief funds, as well as donating 100 HomeAid CARE kits to victims of the fire.

NORTH STATE BUILDING INDUSTRY FOUNDATION
Support Our Health and Hygiene Drive
It's that time of the year again - time for the Foundation's Annual Health and Hygiene Drive!
This year our goal is to put together 60 kits. Many of the recipients are the young adults from our Out of School Youth (OSY) program that serves unemployed youth, ages 18-24, with little to no work experience. OSY staff provide participants with work and life skills coaching and create individual service plans for each youth to ensure that they are on a path to self-sufficiency. Many of these plans include a career in the trades.
Some clients need assistance meeting basic needs to get work-ready and the health and hygiene kits provide that extra help.
To donate products or to make a monetary donation, please contact  Amanda Reynaud.

NSBIA MEDICAL PLAN OPEN ENROLLMENT
Open Enrollment is happening the entire month of November with a December 1, 2018 effective date for all NSBIA members.  If you are currently enrolled in our Association medical plans and you would like to upgrade to a more comprehensive medical plan or change to a plan that has a lower monthly premium, this is the time to do so.

If you are a NSBIA member who does not currently have medical coverage, if you are paying too much for your Cobra Coverage, or if you want to replace your current Covered CA individual plan we can help you do that.

For employers, the group participation requirements are less stringent than going direct to the insurance carrier since you can offer multiple medical plans to your employees regardless of your group size or participation. Enrollment is as easy as picking a plan, filling out an enrollment form and writing a check.  There are no Group Contracts to complete or underwriting to go through to obtain medical coverage.  This is your opportunity to explore how you can enhance your current employee benefit program for the sake of retention of your staff or to limit your financial exposure if you are currently without medical coverage.

Please contact Reggie Conley at (916) 486-2900, or  rconley@amesgrenz.com  for rates and plan information.
