A Message From The Advocates for Diversity Club

The Advocates for Diversity (AFD) club is starting an initiative to help students learn how to be good advocates/allies on campus with the "I Am Message." The purpose is to give students a voice (anonymously) in situations where they might feel offended and uncomfortable confronting when they see or hear something derogatory against a specific group (race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, class, ability, etc) whether it was towards you, a friend, or just someone around you. We will read these for you during morning meeting to help create a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Click the button below for the anonymous form. It is a way of having your voice heard in hopes to end inappropriate and derogatory comments and/or activity on campus. Bookmark this form in case you ever want to fill one out. Thank you in advance for your participation.

10th Grade College Case Studies Night
Wednesday, April 11

Every year, 10th grade students and their parents are invited to participate in a mock admissions evening known as Case Studies. Parents and students will receive three sample college admissions applications to review in advance.  During the Case Studies event, they meet in small groups with experienced admission officers who lead a discussion on what colleges look for in an applicant, as well as what colleges value. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn first-hand how they will be evaluated and begin thinking about the qualities and strengths they bring to the process and how best to prepare for the application process. A college fair concludes the evening, allowing students to benefit from one-on-one conversations with college reps.

"Recently, I competed in a high school sailing regatta. I was leading in first place, headed upwind towards the finish line. The wind was strong, our boat was tilting to the side from the force of the winds on the sails. My legs burned as I hiked out to keep the boat flat. The main sheet held tightly in my grip, not wanting to let go and lose the speed I had built up. I was flying over the water, nothing could stop me from winning. I cherish moments like these, the quiet ones spent on the water."

Seniors and their advisors enjoyed a "Senior Lunch" put together by their parents. They all dressed in tropical shirts to match the luau themed meal.

Students took part in the national walkout against gun violence on Wednesday. Everyone who attended peacefully assembled on the street for 17 minutes to honor the 17 students lost in Parkland, Florida.

The math department came out in full force on Wednesday to celebrate Pi Day. Activities included a pie throwing contest, a pie eating contest, and temporary pi themed tattoos. Hopefully everyone got their fill of pi.

Mr. Peterson's history class did an NFL Draft themed activity that allowed students to apply their historical and geographical knowledge in a novel way.

On Thursday, SPEAK club put together a small egg hunt for the 6th graders in the west wing garden.
