How Can I Get Involved In Missions?
Living Word is active in, and strongly supports, mission and service in our community and around the world. There are many opportunities to serve!

Prayer Shawl Ministry:
Are you blessed with the talent to knit or crochet?  We are looking for a few more people to help us make prayer shawls for those who may be going through a difficult time.  Because of a wonderful donation, the yarn is provided.  We just need your hands and prayers.  If you can help, please contact Val Novatny at [email protected]

Christmas Tree Lot:
The Men's Club Christmas Tree Lot opens Nov. 23 and has many different trees to choose from.  Any individuals or small groups that would like to help with the tree unloading can show up on Sat. or Sun. Nov. 17 and 18 to help us get the 125 trees onto the tree stands.  Volunteers are also needed to help sell the trees.  To volunteer for the tree lot please contact Steve Ernst at 636-537-9030.
Tree Lot hours are: Tuesday thru Friday-2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday-10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. (closed Monday)

Special Needs Family Festival Serve Opportunity:
December 15 from 12 - 4 pm Living Word will host a Family Festival for all those who are differently abled and their families.  We have the opportunity to bless our community and ourselves by creating a fun space for people of all abilities to celebrate the holidays.  There will be multiple partnering groups that will be present to provide different resources and we even have a group from Wildwood Middle School coming to provide games.  You can help with set up, tear down, or during the event.  Please contact Daniel Shanks at [email protected] to serve.

Youth Ministry Opportunities:
Have you ever considered working with middle/high school age youth?  Serving in youth ministry is a blessing and Daniel Shanks would like to share more about our youth ministry and how you could be a part of it over coffee or lunch.  He is looking for dedicated people to serve in our Sunday youth ministry as well as youth special events.  Please contact Daniel Shanks at [email protected] to find out more.

Making a Difference

International Institute:
This was about the eighth time I participated in a potluck lunch at the International Institute of St. Louis (IISTL).  While I always truly enjoy these, I honestly started to consider doing something else at the IISTL.  Then I met a young woman from a former Soviet province who is college educated but needed to escape.  She's using this chance to re-invent herself in new fields of work that she chose for herself.  I also met with a young man from a middle eastern country who has a passion for human rights and wants to continue that work in our country.

How many times do we take advantage of God's second chances for ourselves and others?  Have we identified our passions so that we may best serve others and therefore, serve God?  These folks truly have to start over in almost every aspect of life.  We are blessed to have them with us.

If you would like to help with the IISTL Potlucks, please contact Marcy Watson at [email protected]

The International Institute of Metropolitan St. Louis is looking for adult volunteers who can offer babysitting services while the parent(s) attend classes.   The volunteer can work a few hours or many hours, one day or many days/week.  All classes are at the Institute and are during the day:   3401 Arsenal St.   Please call Deb Smith,  Community Coordinator at the Institute, at 314-773-9090, ext. 182, and let her know of your interest, availability, and that you are from Living Word. To learn more about all of the different serve opportunities with IISTL please contact Lee Foster at [email protected].

Meramec Elementary School (Balancing the Scales):
It's the second year of Living Word's Balancing the Scales mission at Meramec School, and we want to make it even bigger and better. But we need your help to do so. We are focused now on improving reading scores up to grade level for every child in Kindergartner through Third Grade. If you enjoy working with children and could spare a couple hours a week to accomplish this important goal, we would welcome you. It's true that the school is a bit down the road, but you would find joy at the end of it. If you think you are interested, please contact Pastor Brenda at  [email protected] for additional details.
