REMINDER: NO SCHOOL FEBRUARY 18 - 22

Feature: Performing Arts at Academy Hill

Each year our students produce and perform theatricals throughout the spring months. Ms. McNierney's Travelers have traditionally created a unique version of a fairy tale to share with our community. Ms. Marks has directed upper elementary students in a mini-musical written for children. And our Middle School Scholars have conquered one of Shakespeare's works, adapted for our audiences. We are pleased to announce this year's productions, and hope you will be able to join us for the performances.

This year for the first time, the Travelers will perform in the evening, along with the Trailblazers. The productions are loosely related, and have been scheduled for the same night. Please join us on Friday, March 22 at 6:00p for "Musical Folktales."

The Scholars will present William Shakespeare's "Comedy of Errors" on Friday, April 12 at 6:00p, following an intensive rehearsal period and collaborative residency with Shakespeare & Company of Lenox, Massachusetts. On Monday, April 22, the Scholars will visit the Shakespeare & Company campus to see a production of "Hamlet."

We wish many "broken legs" to all of our young actors and dedicated technical crews.

Academy Hill Spring "Non-Gala" Gala News

Fewer than 20 tickets remain!

The Gala Committee is now accepting donated items for our silent and live auctions and raffle tables.

We will gladly accept gift baskets, gift certificates, donated "experiences," tickets to sporting events, and other fabulous items that may be bid on or raffled off at the Spring Gala.

We are also accepting donations of wine or liquor (full, sealed bottles only, please) and gift cards for all-new, fun games!

MathCounts Competition Team Advances to States

The Academy Hill MathCounts competition team finished second overall at the Pioneer Valley Regional competition. The team now advances to the state final. The second place finish is the best ever for an Academy Hill team.

History Day Winners Announced

Thank you to Mr. Brody for bringing the National History Day competition to Academy Hill. Four of our 6th grade participants have been selected to attend the regional competition in a few weeks. Our local winners include (left to right) Elizabeth Hanechak, Noreen Flanagan, Bhaveeth Vemulpalli and Farrah Kanorwalla. Nyah Bailey-Burton received an Honorable Mention recognition.

Projects ranged from engaging displays to original one-woman shows to impeccably produced documentaries. We are very proud of all of our grade 6 entries.

Parent Association News and Updates

Save the Date: The 2019 International Feast will take place on Wednesday, February 27 in the Community Room at Academy Hill from 5:30p - 7:30p. Please bring your favorite ethnic dish to share. (Please remember to include a list of ingredients on a card to be displayed in front of your plate.) Volunteers are needed for set up and clean-up, and to organize and facilitate the cookie-decorating station. Please contact Heather Andress for information or to volunteer!
