Cursillo Weekend February 21-24, 2019
Have you ever wondered, "What is my purpose in life? Why am I here?
Does God have a plan for me? Are faith and belief the same thing?"

If you have or have had these types of questions or similar ones, you might consider attending a Cursillo weekend. The weekend runs from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon. The next weekend is February 21-24, 2019, at Bishop Gravatt Conference Center.

Cursillo is a ministry in the Episcopal Church, with the support of our bishop. The weekend has fifteen talks, over three days, given by lay persons and clergy, then discussed in small groups. It provides an opportunity to deepen your faith and to experience the love of God within a supportive and prayerful community.
For more information, contact Fr. Mike at [email protected] or anyone who has been to cursillo (they usually have a butterfly on their nametag.) Find applications and learn more about Cursillo on the DUSC Website , http://www.edusc.org/cursillo/cursillo.html .

Lakeside Ladies

The winter gathering of Lakeside Ladies will take place on February 23, 2019 from 1pm to 4pm.  Ladies are invited to embrace this mini-retreat opportunity for giving up the rush of the world to savor the joy of just being  and the pilgrimage of silence.  We will follow our usual format: lectio divina, extended silence for personal meditation and reflection, snack time, sharing period, and closing worship.  If you feel called to this time of rest beside the still waters of the lake at 2430 Wilsontown Road, Laurens, please RSVP to reserve your place (and guide snack preparation).  Call or email Pam Imbler at 864-399-6143 or [email protected] to RSVP or for further information.

Has the journey through Lent to Easter become an "Are we there yet?" experience? Has Holy Week drifted toward "same old, same old" for you? We have an unique Lenten opportunity to bring fresh light to the all too familiar journey!

The book Entering the Passion of Jesus (ISBN# 9781501869556) provides the basis to an enriching and challenging 6 session program for Lent. This program will be offered at Holy Cross on Thursdays at 10:00am beginning March 7 and concluding April 11.

Author Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt, explores the last days of Jesus' life in this book and in the video  introductions of the program sessions. By setting major events of what we call Holy Week in historical and cultural context, Levine analyzes the risks and motives of the story's characters. She shows how the biblical texts raise ethical and spiritual questions for readers, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.

Sign up for this special Lenten program in the Narthex. Participants can buy the book at Barnes & Noble or Amazon, and it is available in paperback  or e-book (Nook or Kindle). If cost of the book exceeds financial ability, please contact Rev. Erin.  For further information about this program please contact Pam Imbler.

TALENT
Are you a seasoned professional? Whether you are a veteran or civilian, you have likely worked hard to improve your professional standing within the community, and you have a lot to offer. We would love to include you in supporting, impacting, and ultimately achieving our mission.
We are always looking for individuals with unique skills sets, such as carpentry or resume development, or those of you who have expertise in professions, including but not limited to accounting, finance, or criminal and civil law. But if you have a special certification or qualification or do a job you think would be beneficial for the warriors, the veterans, to help them reintegrate back into society, please reach out to us!
Successful reintegration has to involve community and civilian interaction. And you, whoever you are in the community, could be the one to help that warrior successfully reintegrate back into society. Not only would you be servicing the warrior, you would be servicing yourself and helping yourself integrate into society and spread the word about your talent. It's a win-win!

TIME

Do you have some extra time on your hands and are interested in Upstate Warrior Solution? You are in luck! We could use someone like you to give your time to help impact the mission of our organization. It is not important whether you are a veteran or civilian or have any particular, professional experience or qualification. If you are willing to help us out, we can find a place for you!
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, we encourage you to reach out to us. We have three areas of need you can choose to help out at Upstate Warrior Solution: volunteering at our events, answering the phone at our front desk in our Greenville office or mentoring veterans. But don't feel limited to those positions. If you can give your time in another capacity we can work something out with you. Please contact Nate Moore at [email protected] or call him at 864-523-2073.
