Beware of Ticks This Season
According to the Lake County Health Department (LCHD), contracting a tick-borne disease can happen to anyone, but especially to people who spend a considerable amount of time outdoors in tick-infested environments, such as forest preserves and areas with tall grasses. Among the more common ticks are deer ticks, which carry Lyme disease. Other diseases that ticks carry include Ehrilchiosis and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

There are steps that can be taken to help avoid getting bitten by a tick, including wearing long pants, long-sleeve shirts, socks and hats when outside. Apply insect repellent with DEET to clothing only, and avoid tick-infested area (listed above). For more information on ticks, visit the LCHD website. Click here to view a video on how to remove a tick if you are bitten by one.
Utilize Alternate Routes During Roadwork at Old Hicks and Route 53
Motorists who utilize Old Hicks Road and Route 53 are encouraged to find alternate routes as roadwork continues in this area between Route 83 and Lake Cook Road. Traffic delays continue due to utility relocation work within the State of Illinois Right of Way (ROW).  Alternate routes include Lake Cook Road and Arlington Heights Road to bypass these delays. This work is expected to be completed by June, when the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will begin its road project in this area. The IDOT project is expected to continue through the end of the construction season in November (weather-dependent). L ane closures will not occur during the peak hours of 6:00-8:30 a.m. and 4:30-6:00 p.m. More information on this project can be found  here . For questions, call IDOT Project Manager Jonathan Shumacher at  847-705-4260  or email Jonathan.Schumacher@illinois.gov

Asphalt paving in front of the Visitor's Center.  Credit : Lake County
Topsoil and sod installation were completed the week of May 13, 2019 for the Old McHenry Road project. Crews also paved asphalt from the Long Grove Fire Protection District station to Rt. 53, and from the Village Hall drive to Cuba Road. Miscellaneous cleanup work was completed to prepare for Chocolate Fest this past weekend.  This week, the contractor plans include finishing the last corner of pavement intersection work at Robert Parker Coffin Road and Old McHenry Road. For real-time updates please sign up for the project's email list here. Traffic Impacts: Watch for workers, flaggers and daily lane closures, in addition to trucks coming in and out of the jobsite. This project is expected to be completed by the end of this summer.
Robert Parker Coffin Road Project to Begin in Late June
The upcoming Robert Parker Coffin (RPC) Road project is scheduled to begin the last week in June after Strawberry Fest (June 21-23, 2019).  This project will provide a variety of improvements in the downtown area that will mirror those that are currently being completed on Old McHenry Road. They will include new landscaping, street lights, benches, and ADA accessible sidewalks. Structural improvements will also be completed for the RPC Bridge, and its wood cover will be replaced as part of this project. Water and storm sewer drainage improvements, and extension of the public watermain will also be included as part of the project, which is expected to continue through the end of the construction season in November (weather-dependent). For more information, please call Village Hall at 847-634-9440.
Lake County Bike Path Wayfinding & Signage Survey
Credit: Lake County.
Lake County Department of Transportation (LCDOT) officials are conducting a Bike Path Wayfinding and Signage Survey to help develop and establish guidelines and signage to enhance bikeways that are located throughout Lake County.  Opinions and ideas are currently being sought by the general public, and Long Grove residents are invited to participate in this survey. Objectives include determining popular destinations, if there are sufficient paths leading to them, and how to best direct path users. Lake County is interested in learning what needs to be done to increase pathway use. Please click this link to take this survey.
