Dr. Mehmet Oz Gives Tips for Healthy Living at Civic Association's 75th Anniversary Award Luncheon
TV personality and heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz dispensed tips on how to live a healthier lifestyle during the Town of Palm Beach Civic Association's Annual Award Luncheon Jan. 21 at The Breakers.
A Civic Association Director, Dr. Oz spoke to a packed house at the luncheon. The Annual Award Luncheon supports the association's community programs and initiatives.

Palm Beach Civic Association Planners Key in on Town's
Long-Term Strategies
While town boards tend to focus on business at hand, a Palm Beach Civic Association committee is looking further ahead to the issues of the future. Harvey L. Poppel, chairman of the long-range planning committee, said Monday that its job is to anticipate and help the town and community plan for change so its response is strategic instead of reactive or "event-driven."

Tellus, a Florida Crystals and Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative venture, is an annually renewable packaging company based in Belle Glade that converts sugarcane fiber into packaging and food service products.
Tellus products will decompose in weeks, not centuries like single-use styrofoam and plastic, and substitute for some of that plastic.
A working farm will also be on the tour!

Business Workshop
The Town of Palm Beach will host a three-hour workshop in Council Chambers as a follow up to the 2018 Business Workshop to bring Town staff together with local experts to discuss the future of the business community and ensure sustainability. Moderators will provide an overview relative to how the business community currently interacts with Town government and discuss completed and proposed process improvements to improve doing business with the Town and overall communication.

75 Years of Activism
One of the running jokes about Palm Beach - yep, there are a few, including the car being driven only by a pair of shriveled hands, and injuries sustained during "bluehead season"- is that its residents are so old that when they turn 75 they get kicked off the junior committee. Well, this year the Palm Beach Civic Association stepped down from the junior committee.

A boat has been found washed up about two houses north of Mar-a-Lago. Florida Wildlife Commission is working with Palm Beach Police to determine the cause of grounding and to remove the vessel from the beach.

Third Utilities Phase Could Begin this Summer in
Palm Beach
Construction could begin this summer on the third phase of the town-wide utility burial, officials say. The Town Council on Feb. 14 will consider a town committee's recommendation of a firm to act as construction manager-at-risk for Phase 2 South and Phase 3 South of the undergrounding project. Phase 2 South is between Sloan's Curve and the intersection of South County Road and State Road A1A. Phase 3 South is from that intersection to Peruvian Avenue.

Palm Beach Undergrounding Construction Cost Estimated
at $103 Million
Burying every overhead power, phone and cable television line on the island is a big and costly project. It's no surprise there's been some confusion and disagreement over the years about what the final tab will be. The project isn't expected to be complete until 2026. At this point, it's a safe bet that no one really knows exactly what the final cost will be.

Judge to Decide Class-Action Status of Palm Beach Utilities Suit
A judge will hear closing arguments from attorneys on both sides before deciding whether a lawsuit against the town, seeking to block the use of special assessments to pay for burying utilities, should earn a class-action classification. The lawsuit, filed in 2017 by residents Carol Kosberg and Michael Scharf, challenged the Town Council's decision to impose special assessments on property owners to pay for the $103 million burial of all overhead utility lines in town.
