Ohio State Alums Successful Venture Capital Investing in Technology in the Midwest

Rodolfo Bellesi, Ohio State College of Engineering alumnus and Brazilian native, recently spoke to 614 Startups and other media outlets about his success and shared advice to those intending to start their own businesses. Bellesi started Ikove Capital along with Flavio Lobato and John D'Orazio, a venture development company founded to pursue early stage investments in the Midwest with an emphasis on technology commercialization.

Alpha Zeta Partners Spent Six Weeks in Brazil

Alpha Zeta Partners Study Abroad Program were in Brazil from January 3-February 9. Ten students from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) accompanied by Associate Professor Jeff King, PhD, spent their time in Brazil taking Portuguese and agriculture classes at Ohio States partner institution, Escola Superior de Agricultura at the University of São Paulo (ESALQ USP) located in Piracicaba.

Global Gateway Graduate Student Research Abroad Grant

The Global Gateway Graduate Student Research Abroad Grant is open for applications until February 15. The grant encourages and promotes the professional and academic development of graduate student researchers at The Ohio State University by providing financial support that allows students to undertake thesis or dissertation research abroad, and work toward the completion of their degree. All graduate students conducting such research abroad internationally this summer are encouraged to apply.

Melvin Pascalls Workshop on Food Packaging at Federal University of Ceará

Melvin Pascall, PhD, professor at Ohio States College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, presented a workshop on food packaging at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) in December for students and professionals in the field. Pascalls connection to Patricia Marques, PhD candidate at UFC, who was a visiting scholar at Ohio State with Pascall for 10 months, led to the collaboration in December. Professor Pascalls visit is one of the consequences of my time at Ohio State, said Marques. We were very happy with him being here and we hope other students were able to take advantage of this experience.

Spring Postdoctoral Recruitment Event with the College of Medicine

Apply by March 1 to attend the 2019 Spring Postdoctoral Recruitment with the College of Medicine. Application for the event is open to senior graduate students who have completed or expect to complete their PhD between May 2018 and December 2019. Any graduate student in the United States (visa status does not matter) can apply. Selected candidates will be invited to visit the Ohio State campus, present their research to faculty, interview with prospective mentors and learn more about postdoctoral opportunities at Ohio State and Nationwide Childrens Hospital. Full funding will be provided for travel expenses.

Global Perspectives: Sammy Bonner

Im Sammy Bonner, and Im a junior interior designer at Ohio State. Im from Lafayette, Indiana, and I moved to Columbus to study design at Ohio State! I decided to study design because I loved the TV show, Bar Rescue, when I was growing up and Ive always wanted to be able to create beautiful solutions to problems like these. I hope to be able to travel more for design in my future career. Brazil was one of the most amazing places that I have ever been in my life. Ive never been somewhere that felt so alive.
