Unit 26 Gift Funds New Bed on Azalea Way

Our volunteer Unit 26 -- the Lillian McEwan Unit, based on Bainbridge Island -- made a generous gift of $12,500 to the Foundation this year, and the money has been used to fund a major new planting on Azalea Way. Some of the money will also be used to fund the Arboretum Garden Stewards program and sponsor our 2019 Opening Night Party.

An Amazing Day of Caring

A total of 220 volunteers came to the Arboretum on September 14 for the United Way of King County's annual Day of Caring event. The volunteer crew was made up of employees from seven local companies, plus a number of individual participants. They worked with staff gardeners on eight different weeding and mulching projects all around the park and made a enormous impact.

Plant Sale Success

More than 400 visitors attended our Fall Plant Sale on September 8, and helped us raise $6,300 in support of the Arboretum. We sold over 1,000 plants, totaling more than $5,300. In addition, we raised $1,000 through generous donations (110 altogether) at checkout and the sale of new memberships. Thanks to everyone who contributed to success of the event!

Job Opportunity at the Foundation

We are on the lookout for a part-time (50 to 60 percent FTE) bookkeeper/office assistant. Our new staff member will assist the Director of Finance in managing accounts payable, generating reports, and more. The position will also involve answering phones, helping customers in our gift shop, and performing other clerical tasks as needed.
