Dear Parents-
Our second graders have spent many weeks preparing for their
first Confession, and the day is fast approaching. Please keep these amazing boys and girls, and their teachers, in your prayers for January 16th. Mrs. Moskowitz and Mrs. Carroll have worked with the children to not only prepare them from the perspective of faith formation, but also prepared them with an understanding of the beauty of this sacrament. Parents are reminded that regular reception of this sacrament helps to strengthen individual relationships with God. It is not just saying that you are sorry that matters, but it is the firm commitment to do better and to try harder to live the life that God intended for each of us.
Also on
January 16th is our PTO meeting. The PTO is an important part of our school as they work tirelessly to raise funds to provide needed upgrades to areas that directly benefit student learning, and also support teachers. The PTO has arranged for Jannet and Ray Clark to speak with us on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Clark are Christian, ordained ministers, and highly respected motivational speakers. This important presentation will address making positive choices to live your best life. I hope to see you there! The meeting starts at 7:00.
Prior to the presentation on Wednesday evening, I would like to take a few minutes of your time to update you on our progress in the initiatives identified through the parent satisfaction survey. Additionally, I would like to take a look ahead at the 2019-2020 school year. If interested, please join me at 6:45.
Catholic Schools Week is January 27th through February 2nd. A schedule of activities will be available next week, and the highly anticipated talent show is scheduled for February 1st, at 1:30. The talent show is 90 minutes long, and in an effort to make sure as many students as possible can participate, students are limited to one performance. Miss Denneny is working very hard to make the show a success for all. If you have any questions, please let her know.
The
Science Fair is on the calendar for February 21st, and we need 90 judges to make this event as successful as possible for our students. If you are interested, or have any questions, please access the information and sign up website at
http://sjssciencefair.org/. Your time is greatly appreciated. The students put a great deal of effort into this milestone event and they really need you!!
Save the Date!!! The Spring Fling is scheduled for
April 6th. Mark your calendars today, find and book your babysitter. The Spring Fling will be a night of great fun, friends, and the all important fundraising. Proceeds of this year’s auction are earmarked for classroom enhancements and upgrades that include better lighting, and new floors. Many classrooms are in need of these upgrades that will improve the learning environment for students. Please stay tuned for more information, and consider helping us meet our goals.
Remember to place your February
lunch orders for your children through our school lunch program, in conjunction with Fairfax Food Service. Use this link,
https://sjschoolva.org/hot-lunch-program, to be re-directed to our webpage to find the ordering procedures. Remember to place your order no later than the 28
th January!
Don’t forget Monday, January 21st is Martin Luther King holiday. In addition, please remember that the school calendar is a fluid document, and subject to change. Please also note that the
last day of school is currently scheduled for June 12th. This date includes three built-in snow days. The 8th grade graduation date will be set shortly.
As always, if you have an questions, please let me know.
