Delivery Partners for the Hinkley Supply Chain Team
April 2018
Dear

We are glad to report that the Hinkley Supply Chain Team continues to grow the value of South West supplier content by offering a supplier matching service for EDF Energy  and HPC contractors and by delivering tailored support and advice to suppliers through its Hinkley Supply Chain Programme. The activity is funded by EDF Energy, the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, West of England Combined Authority and from early March we are delighted to also now have the support from the Welsh Government for businesses in South Wales.

The Hinkley Supply Chain Programme, led by Programme Lead Nick Golding of SWMAS Ltd has now engaged with 19 Tier 1 contractors, assessed 99 work package opportunities and promoted 2095 supplier matches for these requirements. We estimate some 250 suppliers in the South West have already benefited from work associated with Hinkley Point C with a current pipeline of circa £200 million being supported with relevant suppliers being promoted."

This newsletter highlights achievements on the HPC site, updates on recent contracts and supplier case studies with information on skills support and supplier workshops.

Regards

Chris Langdon

HPC Project News:
Gallery Goal Complete

EDF Energy have reached the first HPC Project Goal of 2018!

The team members in BYLOR have worked hard to hit this key target, meaning that construction of the Unit 1 pre-stressing gallery at Nuclear Island is progressing well. BYLOR steel fixers have been busy tying steel to build rebar cages at the prefabrication yard. To read more click here.

Ovivo Contract Award

Essex firm, Ovivo UK Limited, was awarded a £27m contract to supply the largest cooling water intake screening system in the word for Hinkley Point C.

Ovivo UK Limited will design and supply a complete cooling water intake screening system, processing more than191 cubic metres per second of water that will be used for cooling both the electricity generating steam cycle and the EPR technology used at HPC.

"We are very happy to have been selected by EDF Energy as their sole supplier for the seawater filtration system" said Marc Barbeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ovivo Inc. "We have a long association with the United Kingdom's nuclear power plant industry and we are proud to be given this opportunity to contribute in the building of the next generation of nuclear plants in the country."

Efinor bring u nique approach to Hinkley

Efinor, a company with a history of innovation in both specialties metalwork and the way they do business, has brought its unique approach to the UK for Hinkley Point C.

They are working in partnership with international organisations whist also seeking out local Somerset businesses. Throughout its 30-year development - from a single employee to a global group with over 600 people - Efinor has stayed true to its founder's vision of family-sized operations providing expertise in close proximity to its customers. That vision saw Efinor launch the British arm of its business in 2015 and establish an office in Bristol in 2017, having won the contract to deliver the main control room for the two reactors and on-site simulator...

SC Innovation tasked with water filtration testing

SC Innovation, the design and engineering arm of Devon based SC Group, has completed structural tests on key water filtration components for Ovivo UK, which is supplying the cooling water intake screening system for Hinkley Point 'C'.

The tests, which were conducted in January at SC Innovation's Dunkeswell facility and witnessed by representatives from Ovivo UK, assessed the structural strength of the proposed mesh panels to be used for the Drum Screen. This is a key part of the cooling water intake screening system, which will be used to cool both the electricity generating steam-cycle and the nuclear reactor services of the new nuclear power plant

National College for Nuclear:
Bridgwater & Taunton College has taken its place as a central provider of nuclear skills and training. The College has become a hub of the National College for Nuclear, which opened its doors this February ready to support Britain's next generation of nuclear technicians and engineers.

Together with Lakes College, the Cumbrian hub, Bridgwater and Taunton College will home state-of-the-art facilities that include virtual, simulated laboratories. The college will help thousands of young people and other learners gain the knowledge and skills they need to work in the growing nuclear sector, which provides vital low-carbon power to businesses across the country.

The facility is one of five National Colleges being established by government, as part of its Industrial Strategy developing technical talent. It provides industry with a skilled workforce, across a range of sectors support the country's long-term economic growth.
Supplier Case Study
"The rest of the world is watching progress at HPC as the UK take strides forward in nuclear new build. It's hugely exciting to be part of that"

Before a single blade of grass was moved at Hinkley Point C, extensive pre-planning work was undertaken to ensure logistics for the site could be delivered safely and effectively. The sheer scale and complexity of logistics required is phenomenal.

This is where the experience and local knowledge of Somerset based Osprey came in to provide marine and heavy logistics advance consultation to look at the challenges related to delivering large and heavy items to the site.

That was over 6 years ago, and today Portishead headquartered Osprey are still engaged with HPC completing live operations under NEC3 contract to Tier 1 & 2 suppliers. For the past 18 months they've been involved with port logistics at Avonmouth Dock ensuring large components are safely funnelled into the holding areas ahead of being installed offshore - a task easier said than done.
