mployed). Our community members falling within the ALICE threshold are households earning above the poverty line, but not enough to cover the most basic needs like food and housing.
In Alachua County alone, 50 percent of households struggle to pay for basic needs such as housing, child care, health care, transportation, food and technology. Meanwhile, 46 percent of households statewide face the same financial challenges. And between 2010 and 2016, the number of low-income workers struggling to cover essentials grew by six percent.
Below is the breakdown of our six-county service area in total households and the percentages that live in poverty or are ALICE households.
