The Tattered Cover Autographed Book Collectors' Club is a club for the true collector, the ardent bibliophile, and all lovers of the printed word. Members of the ABC Club receive one signed first edition chosen by our buyers and events staff each month. Selections represent both fiction and nonfiction.

Dear Friends,
Welcome to our October newsletter! As the incoming owners, we thought we should try to add a personal note to each of our monthly newsletters going forward; to tell you a bit about what's going on at Tattered Cover, and to highlight some books we're super excited about. In fact, let's start there:
Seventeen year-old Hendrix (lonely, kind of awkward boy) and Corrina (lonely, bad-ass guitar playing girl), and Hendrix's grandfather (Gpa), suffering from Alzheimer's, have ditched everything and are driving from California to New York. This is a book about finding yourself, about romantic love, and familial love. As you would expect from Brendan Kiely, the writing is exquisite and the characters are perfectly drawn. Great for not only teen readers but adults, too, especially anyone caring for an aging parent or grandparent.
Is there one moment that set the rest of your life in motion? One decision, that if made differently, would have you led down an alternate path? Dark Matter explores, through ingenious plot twists and wonderful prose, what would happen if you could troll the multitude of universes - aka, the multiverse - that are created with each forking decision you make. It's Schrodinger's Cat come to life to the power of infinity. It's also about the power of love over infinity. This clever and very readable book is really a work of science fiction, but then again it's not. The themes and characters are familiar and comfortable. Great for book clubs.
In addition to what we're reading, our Director of Buying and Associate Frontlist Buyer, Cathy Langer and Stephanie Coleman respectively (known heretofore as Cathanie), are so stoked about
News of the World
by Paulette Giles, we've made it our Very Impressive Book (V.I.B.) for the month. When Cathanie likes a book, take notice. Seriously. More on the V.I.B. below.
October is also unofficially turning out to be young adult fiction
 month at Tattered Cover. Not only are we hosting the inaugural Colorado Teen Book Con and it's related YA Author Happy Hour (see below for info on both), but we're very excited to welcome a true master of YA Lit, Laurie Halse Anderson (best known for
Speak), later in the month. (Our
entire schedule of both adult and kid events is pretty spectacular in October.)
Aside from the books, we're in the midst of two really big changes, both of which are designed to serve you better.
First, we're reimagining our coffee shop business. Our new manager, Jeremy Patlen (who comes to us from a wonderful bookstore cafe in NYC) is creating a new menu (with fresh, local ingredients) and other new innovations. (Be on the look for very new Nitro Brew Cold Coffee in our downtown store!).
And second, we're implementing a shiny, new, and modern computer system. Everything from our cash registers to our inventory control system to our financial system is getting a digital facelift. It's a huge undertaking that will improve every facet of our business. Look for that to be in place some time after the holidays.

Join us for this special event specifically for adult readers of YA literature. The night before Teen Book Con, the authors going to that event will be at the Aspen Grove store for a private signing. This special event is for readers 21 and up who love YA! Party snacks and wine will be provided by our friends at the
Alamo Drafthouse, and beer will be provided by
Fiction Beer Company. We are closing the store for this event, and space is limited, so registration is required.

captures a time and place that so many seem to want to shove into the corner of our history books, hoping it won't see the light of day. The racism of the Jim Crow South and the popularity of circus sideshows that made a spectacle of that which was different converge in a powerful way on the lives of George and Willie Muse, but this story is one that extends beyond them. Macy captures that spirit of the people and places that created this tragedy, leaving no stone unturned and no story untold as she traces the brothers' path through an entire century. -

Like the books of Jason Reynolds, the story of Piddy Sanchez and her effort to steer clear of a very tough school bully, is a reminder that books with characters living in non-white, non-suburban communities have the same universal appeal as the books we're probably more used to seeing.

is great for all teenagers, especially those who have dealt with bullying. -
