Bible Adventure Sunday - Sunday, September 23rd

The Board of Christian Education is excited to present our third grade children with the Adventure Bible, which is geared toward children 8 -12 years of age. The Adventure Bible is the whole Bible in its entirety, but also includes fun facts, inspirational activities, and explanations about each book. Our Sunday school teachers are currently using this Bible during class. Our hope is that this fun, colorful book of God's adventures will inspire our children to read the Bible more and incorporate all they learn into their everyday lives.

We will be presenting these Bibles to the children this Sunday, September 23rd, during the Children's Message. We hope third grade children will be able to attend church on this day to receive their Bible. If you will not be in church on this date, arrangements can be made to get a Bible to your child at another time.

Parents and children receiving their Adventure Bibles are also encouraged to attend an informational session on this new Bible following our church service around 11:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. The Adventure Bible's features will be briefly highlighted along with ideas on how families can incorporate Bible reading and learning into their lives.

We hope you can attend this exciting event! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Stephanie Haines at (860)228-3077 or [email protected].

Annual Reports Due - Sunday, September 23rd

A reminder to Board and Committee Chairs that Annual Reports are due to Sally ([email protected]) by this Sunday, September 23rd.  If you are unable to meet this deadline, please contact Sally.  Thank you!

The Lord's Prayer

Over the months of April, May and June, we tried using some different words in The Lord's Prayer during worship.  The Deacons hope in doing this was to draw our attention to the words we say so often and to help us think about what they mean.  During the month of September, we will be revisiting the various words and then in the month of October, the Deacons will be including a brief survey in the bulletin to get your input and thoughts on the words and experience.

September 23rd
"debts and debtors"

September 30th
"forgive and forgiven"

4th Annual Gilead Golf Open - Wednesday, September 26th

We are just one week away from this year's Gilead Open golf outing taking place at Blackledge Country Club on Wednesday, September 26th. All proceeds from the tournament go to support the missions and ministries of our Church. There is still opportunity to register as a golfer or support the event with a donation.

The Gilead Open committee would like to thank everyone that is supporting the event through Corporate, Tee or Individual sponsorships or through donations for the silent auction or raffle. For those that are still interested in participating or supporting the event please contact a member of the committee. Raffle prize or silent auction items are still welcomed. Themed gift baskets, gift certificates to local business or golf accessories or apparel are great items for the raffle.

Those participating in the event can look forward to a day of fun and great fellowship. Registration starts at 9 am with a shotgun start at 10 am. Golfers will enjoy a continental breakfast, bag lunch, eighteen holes of golf with a cart and an all you can eat buffet dinner featuring prime rib and chicken marsala. Entry forms are available at the sign-up table in the hall or from a committee member.

Again, thank you to everyone for making this a "fun" and "fund" raising event for our church.

Join us on Friday, October 6th when we will gather at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for a potluck dinner followed by a film and discussion. We will be watching  "The Post" (Rated - PG 13).  Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep) is the first female publisher of a major American newspaper -- The Washington Post. With help from editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), Graham races to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spans three decades and four U.S. presidents. Together, the y must overcome their differences as they risk their careers -- and very freedom -- to help bring long-buried truths to light.  Bring a dish to share and join us!

The Grief Journey
Bereavement Support Group

The loss of a loved one is not well understood or always supported by our society. Deep emotional wounds often caused by the death of a loved one are not unlike physical injuries. Losing a loved one is a real injury that deserves equally prompt attention. Many individuals have benefited from some guidance through the process of grief. Bereavement Support Group meetings provide a safe place to share stories of our loved ones as well as learn about the process of grief with others.

The Grief Journey: Bereavement Support Group meets on Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  at the Church of the Holy Family Parish House, 185 Church Street, Hebron, CT. The group is facilitated by grief educators Michael Glazier and Stephanie Haines. All grieving adults are welcome whether your loss is recent or past and you may come to one session or as many as you would like. This support group is non-denominational and brought to you by a collaborative effort of the Hebron Faith Communities. You may call Stephanie Haines at (860) 228-3077 for more information.

Scripture Reading and Prayer for the Week
Mark 8: 27-38

Holy Wisdom of God, you call to us from the depths of our hearts, where we long for connection with you and with one another.  You call to us from our busy lives, where human pain and possibility are most urgent. You call to us from our sacred stories to create, challenge, and comfort.  Guide us, we pray, and help us to see with your eyes the ways which lead to beloved community where Christ Jesus is at the center.  Amen.
