FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
Please Support Our Boosters! Back when I was teaching social studies at LC, I helped to start our Knowledge Bowl team (with Dave Jackson). In order to practice and compete, we needed to purchase a set of "buzzer" bars that students would hit in order to answer the question. These bars were astronomically expensive and it would have taken us a few years of fundraising to raise the money. Thanks to the Booster Club, they jumped into action and we had the bars within a month (and we went on to State that year!). Your support will make a world of different to our kids involved in extracurricular activities at LC. TigerFest is a great event to mingle with parents, teachers, coaches and maybe bring home some awesome raffle prizes!

TigerFest is the biggest event of the year for the LC Booster Club. Please help support our clubs and athletics by attending this fun event this Saturday night! Since their establishment in 1983, the LC Boosters have donated over $1,000,000 to ASB, Band, Baseball, Basketball, Cheer, Choir, Cross Country, Debate, Drama, Drill, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Knowledge Bowl, Orchestra, Robotics, Soccer, Softball, Sports Medicine, Tennis, Track, Volleyball, and Wrestling to buy uniforms, equipment, and other costs to support these awesome Tiger groups.

Booster Club couldn't put on this event without the generous contributions from our sponsors. We would like to thank the following families and businesses: Overbluff Cellars , EideBailly Spokane , George Bourekis, DDS , Megan & Chris Zylak , Community Minded TV , The Dehmer Family , Umpqua Bank , Coors Light , Itron , Safe Haven Guardianship Agency , UBS , PTA Performance , Alliant Insurance Services , Applied Healthcare Associates , Ferrante's Marketplace Cafe & Catering , Lisa Peters @ Legacy Group Network , Piskel, Yahne, & Kovarik, PLLC , S&S Coatings , Cloninger & Associates, LLC , Yost Gallagher Construction , Dr. Jay H Sciuchetti , Eymann, Allison, Hunter, Jones, PS , Dave Christy @ State Farm , Charlie Barnes , The Garvin Family , Spokane OBGYN , Anastasi, Moore, & Martin , Environmental Control Spokane , Dr. Daniel W. Skinner , Electric Smith , Children's Choice Dentistry , Spokane Pediatrics , Darren Young @ State Farm , Nollette Investments , Tyrone & Amy Barbery , LABAR Architecture , The Morris Family , Divine's Auto Centers , Prosser Dentistry , The McNutt Family , The Effenberger Family , The Hunter-Heath Family , Ben Joyce Painter of Place , The Meyer Family , and Smacky's on Broadway.

November 6 Facility Improvement Bond Election: Voters will be asked to make three decisions by Tuesday, November 6 about building improved facilities to provide new opportunities for students and the community. Spokane Public Schools, the City of Spokane, and the Spokane Public Library have partnered to create value for the citizens they serve. Together, the city and schools measures will:
  • Build three new middle schools and modernize three existing middle schools
  • Build three new libraries and modernize four existing library facilities
  • Provide input on the location for replacing the aging Joe Albi Stadium
  • Build an addition to LC adding classrooms and a commons area (see renderings below)

The additional and replacement middle schools give the district enough space to move sixth graders out of elementary school and into a three-grade middle school model to lengthen the time between significant transitions for students. Shifting sixth graders reduces class sizes and eases crowding at elementary schools. Additional investments will be made in safety, technology, and smaller building improvements district-wide.

A change in how Washington state funds public education is creating a $2.20 per thousand decrease in property tax rates beginning in 2019. The bond proposes reinvesting $0.98 of that reduction into schools and city libraries. More information is available at partnershipspokane.org .

COLLEGE & CAREER
SchooLinks: We are transitioning to a new college application tracking system called SchooLinks. Students can access their account at www.lctigers.com - look for the link on the right.
FAFSA: October 1 marks an important day as it is when the 2018-19 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened. It is highly recommended that all LC Seniors file the FAFSA. It is the first step in getting financial aid -- including grants, scholarships, work study, and loans - from any college, technical school, or career training program. Go to to www.fafsa.gov for more information.

FSA ID: In order to file the FAFSA, both the parent and student must first create FSA IDs. We strongly encourage you to create your FSA ID now at fsaid.ed.gov because it takes approximately 1-3 days for the FSA ID to be verified and ready to be used. See the FAFSA FAQ document attached for more information. This is an important first step to apply for the FAFSA.
