Journey of the Thyroid and Heart

The phrase "speaking from the heart" metaphorically describes the partnership of the thyroid and heart. The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped endocrine gland located in the throat area that regulates body temperature, metabolism, and cellular energy. Problems with thyroid function can affect sleep, metabolism, body temperature, memory, fatigue, hair loss, autoimmune, fertility or difficulty finding the right words.

People who communicate with clarity, truth, and confidence have a physically and energetically healthy thyroid function. A person who "swallows their words" or feels "suffocated by life" in areas such as relationships, career, or expressing feelings may experience thyroid issues. Cultural and family dynamics, and current life situations can affect the function of the thyroid. Does a person feel safe to say what they truly feel, fear rejection from others, or feel their opinion does not hold value?

Within the chakra system, the Throat Chakra supports the thyroid function and is related to our communication skills. The Throat Chakra tells the world what our heart is feeling. The Heart Chakra is a holding place for needs of nurturing, food, companionship, safety, stability, survival and belonging. These needs are received by the Throat Chakra, "translated" and then expressed outwardly to our environment. Simply put, the thyroid speaks our needs and allows us to express from the heart.

The thyroid gland is the first endocrine gland to develop in a fetus, around the 24th day of gestation. Thyroid cells originate from an area near the base of tongue. During the fourth week of gestation, thyroid cells migrate from the tongue towards the throat area, and reach their destination by week seven. As the thyroid cells migrate towards the throat, embryo heart cells join along side and they both journey towards their homes. Once the thyroid reaches its home in the throat, the heart cells continue on to it's home in the chest. The thyroid gland is fully mature by week 12 and produces hormones by week 16.
Sneaky Fear
Behaviors in response to a triggering situation are commonly expressed four ways. Regardless of the emotion, the root can be traced back to fear. Many people suffer emotional stress, illness or feel over ruled by these patterns.

Do you experience these behaviors demonstrated in your life?

Can you think of others in your life who demonstrate these?

Escape :
What situations are you running from or attempting to run from? Examples: conflict, ending a relationship, starting a new relationship, owning up to our responsibilities, financial decisions, fear of change, fear of success, fear of failure..?

Aggression:
What situations make you angry or make you want to be violent? Do you bottle up your anger and then explode? Do you go through life at a "constant simmer?" Are you triggered with work, school, spouse? Is your anger directed at children/family, groups and organizations?

Inhibition:
What do you feel is holding you back in life? Where do you feel stuck? What situations make you feel like you are losing ground instead of making progress? Personal relationships, career, education, money, holding grudges, physical pain, anxiety?

Over Powering (The Sneaky Behavior) :
This one is sneaky because the behavior pattern usually involves a "positive activity" and requires a dedication or regimen that others admire. A person carries out the activity in order to cope with a unpleasant reoccurring emotion. However, the relief is temporary and unpleasant emotion repeats itself.

Here are some examples: When do you arbitrarily impose your power on a situation? Is your emotional well-being dependent on a structured routine: "I must do my relaxation techniques every day or I can't sleep. If I skip one day of yoga, I wake up in physical pain? If I do not go to the gym every day, then I am really anxious an on edge. As long as I do my deep breathing routine, I can shut down my stress or anxiety."

Intellectually “digging” around a triggering event will not resolve the pattern. The only way to allow a complete and permanent integration is for a person to re-experience physically and not intellectually the true origin of the emotion.

"The Best Times To Eat"
Dr. Eric Berg
Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Most people have been stuck on the this strategy: frequent small meals of a low-fat/lean protein diet (opposite of ketogenic eating).

Frequent meals/snacking and cutting out fat keeps your insulin high which prevents weight loss! Adding intermittent fasting to a ketogenic diet can strategically get you to your goal fast.

The Ketogenic diet plus intermittent fasting combines two powerful techniques into one highly effective weight loss strategy.
