Contact your staff representative for more information if you are interested in attending this conference.

Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Convention

This year's convention is a milestone as SFL president Larry Hubich will be retiring after 16 years at the helm of the labour movement in Saskatchewan. The convention will elect Brother Hubich's successor and GSU delegates will be there to participate in this historic event.

You can learn more about convention here. Questions? Contact your GSU staff rep.

The Tuesday Members' Memo is emailed to GSU members weekly on Tuesday. If you know a co-worker who doesn't receive the TMM and would like to, have them call GSU toll-free at 1.866.522.6686 or send an email to [email protected]

A member called staff representative Steve Torgerson with questions about their benefit plan. The member was hired 8 months ago and did not know how to claim for prescription medicine or how to submit a claim.

Torgerson walked the member through how to submit a claim to their insurance provider and who to ask to get a copy of the benefit plan text.

It is valuable to fully understand your full medical benefit plan through work. Whether you need to use them now or not knowing what you have is the first step in utilizing your benefit plan to it's fullest.

How to Get (More) Comfortable Having Honest Conversations With Your Boss

Having an open and honest dialogue with your manager can be intimidating, especially if you don't have an especially warm relationship. (Think: the manager who only responds with "it was fine" when you ask about their weekend.)

But, getting into the habit of seeking out feedback and sharing your opinions on a regular basis (even if they conflict with what you know your boss wants to hear) can improve your relationship and enhance your performance. Demonstrating a commitment to growth and candor will help you to stand out as a lifelong learner who's open to feedback (and score major points on your next performance review). You'll also gain a more solid understanding of your manager's expectations and hone in on your areas for improvement.

So, as awkward as these little chats might be, they're well worth the effort.
