2019 JTCC Gala - Save The Date!

JTCC celebrates its 20th anniversary with the annual GEICO Champions Celebration on May 2nd. The event is generously being hosted by the Swedish Ambassador H.E. Karin Olofsdotter at her residence in Washington, D.C. The 2019 honorees are JTCC founder, Ken Brody, and Hall of Fame Sports broadcaster, Mary Carillo.  Click here for more info

Frances Tiafoe makes his mark at the Australian  Open

JTCC alumnus Frances Tiafoe reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open in Melbourne. He defeated world #5 Kevin Anderson in 2nd round before beating Italian veteran  Andreas Seppi in the third. On his 21st birthday, Big Foe took down #20 Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16. The result made him the youngest American male to reach the last eight of a major since Andy Roddick at Wimbledon in 2003. Tiafoe also broke into world's top 30 for the first time and is now #2 ranked American.

Fun at the JTCC Tennis Festival

The first free community tennis festival of 2019 took place on January 27 at JTCC. More than 60 adults and kids enjoyed two hours of different on court activities led by JTCC Community Outreach manager, Annessa Taylor. Everyone who attended then received a range of offers for different JTCC programs. The festivals are scheduled to continue on a monthly basis so sign up here to join in!
Police Athletic League (PAL) 

Police Athletic League (PAL) -  16 young tennis players successfully completed the eight-week long winter Prince George's County Police Athletic League (PAL)  program operated by JTCC.  JTCC partners with PAL to offer youngsters from Prince George's County the opportunity to learn tennis with free instruction. These players will now have the opportunity to continue to their training at JTCC during the spring.
Rally in 10 March Session

Come and join JTCC's next Rally in 10 session. Classes run from March 4 - 24 and cost only $59 for six classes.  Rally in 10 is JTCC's beginner tennis program that guarantees that within the first 10 minutes of instruction, players will be "rallying"-hitting a ball back and forth with a partner. New Director of Tennis at Silver Spring YMCA - Vanessa Hahn

Vanessa Hahn has been promoted to JTCC Director of Tennis at the YMCA Silver Spring. In her new role, Hahn will oversee tennis operations at the YMCA and is tasked with growing the tennis programs and developing the JTCC/YMCA partnership.
 
A native of Brazil, Hahn has been involved competitively and professionally with tennis for over twenty years, starting as an adolescent and playing competitively through her teenage years.  Hahn joined JTCC in 2016 and in the summer of 2017 was promoted to Assistant Director of Tennis at the YMCA. During this period she also coached the Potomac Schools Boys' and Girls' tennis team. Hahn holds a PTR Professional rating and has specialized certifications for kids 10 and under and 11-17.
 
Hahn's unyielding desire to grow tennis, commitment to the mission of the JTCC and can-do attitude perfectly positions her to lead JTCC YMCA operations.
Shining Bright in 2019 at JTCC

Over the holiday period JTCC upgraded the lighting in all three of the indoor court buildings. The mew LED lights have the dual benefit of creating better playing conditions and saving energy. 
In the News - Ayana Akli

The Washington City Paper recently published an article on JTCC student-athlete, Ayana Akli. The feature showcases how Akli is a star tennis player who currently attends Wheaton High School. Akli has just signed her national letter of intent to play for the University of Maryland Women's team thereby fulfilling her dream of playing college tennis and studying civil engineering.
