8th Grade Field Trip  -  Monday, November 5th, 2018
Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th Grade Students,

This week your student received a permission slip in their science class to attend a performance by Compagnie Käfig at Northrop Auditorium on the University of Minnesota campus. Compagnie Käfig is well-known for blending different styles of dance with cutting-edge digital projections. We are excited that our students have the opportunity to watch them perform!

Permission slips were due today (10/26), but your student can still turn it in on Monday or Tuesday of next week. All students will need to bring a bag lunch or order one through school. The cost of the field trip is $5.00 per student to cover the cost of the tickets and buses.

Copies of the permission slips are available in English , Somali , Spanish.

Contribute To This Year's Yearbook
St. Louis Park Middle School has new advisers for the 2018-19 yearbook.  We, Maria Johnson and Lisa Becker, are excited about the opportunity to help gather memories for your students, but we would love to have your help!
The best yearbooks are filled with many photos of a variety of events and students; learning, performing, competing and having fun. We have an easy way for you to share photos of our Middle Schools students in their co-curricular activities, so that we have many to choose from.
Our yearbook company, Josten’s, has created RePlayIt, a free app to share photos with us. You can find it in the App Store or in Google Play Store to download to your mobile phone. We gave it a try and it works great!  All we did was download the app, registered with St. Louis Park Middle School and took some photos to share. Thank you for helping capturing the moments of our students’ year!

Binder Buddies
Parents and Guardians:

Many times I am asked if there is anything that as parents and guardians, you can do to assist or help with here at the Middle School. An opportunity that comes along three times each year is Binder Buddies. This occurs the first Friday of quarter two, three, and four to help students get organized, discard any worksheets or items they don't need anymore from quarter one, repair their binder and supplies if possible, and if not, provide students with new supplies or a new binder.

If you are able to volunteer to assist with students organizing their binders and supplies, the first Binder Buddies event is Friday, November 9. Click here to sign up.

We also welcome donations for supplies and we have some of our Site Council fundraising go to Binder Buddies but can struggle to support a student body of over 1,000 students and want to help any student who needs assistance with this. Some items we always need are pencils, pens, binders (3-inch only), binder dividers, notebooks, loose leaf paper, and pencil pouches.

If you have any gifts to donate, either supplies or financial, please bring them to our front office and just say it is for Binder Buddies.

Thank you,

Jason Boll
Assistant Principal

DonorsChoose
Did you know that there is a way you can help teachers in our building make cool things happen? You can directly impact the materials and resources our kids have with your social media help or your financial donations. Ask your kids if they like using the Hokki stools in the school, or the standing desks, or the various games found in different OT classes. Most of those items have come from teachers writing grant requests on DonorsChoose. This site allows teachers to write a request for items they have on their wish lists for their classrooms. Things that the teachers think will help your kids. Please check out the various projects our teachers have posted and think about donating or sharing on your social media accounts! We have teachers looking for basketball jerseys, for books for the whole-school reading project, for fitness bands to teach international connections, so many ideas! Our school has funded 63 ideas so far, help us keep it going!

Volleyball
The last week of the 7th grade volleyball season began with a terrific match at Wayzata Central on Monday. The B team lost a close one, but the A team won. Outstanding serving by Sophia Healy, Evelyn Schmitz, Ava Bottolene and Ashley Reyes Castillo along with the amazing defense of Marah Cashman, Josie Bohrod and Ruby Penna led the Oriole attack. Well done team.

The 7th grade team finished their season with matches against Minnetonka West. The A team lost a close one but the B team won. Kiara Martinez-Vidal, Jackie Herrarte Navas, Ava Bottolene, Josie Bohrod and Karla Perez had amazing serves while Marah Cashman, Vesna Dennison, Evie Schmitz and Sophia Healy were terrific on defense.

Congratulations to the 8th grade girls' volleyball team for the fantastic match they played against a tough Bloomington Olson team. The B team won decidedly in the first two games of the match and beat them in the extra game as well. Phenomenal serving by CeCe Meyen, Jahmira York and Amit Ben Harush helped the team to a victory. Great defense was played by Abby Baudhuin, Mae Turman and Maddie Kennedy. The A team lost in the final tie-breaker game, 15-13. Though it was a tough loss, the team played their best game yet. Strong serves by Dezi Meringdol, KaMya Nickens-Norwood, Olivia Grefe and Abby Stadler helped keep the games very close while Sophia Earle, Patricia Lopez-Milian and Fiona Schaack held strong on defense. Way to go girls!

The 8th grade girls' volleyball team defeated Minnetonka West. Both the A and B teams were victorious over a tough opponent in their best match of the season.
