Hearts and Scholars is an annual event that unites UC San Diego scholarship recipients with the philanthropists who support them.
This event is open to all CASP students.

After graduating from UC San Diego with a major in Public Heath and a minor in Psychology, Jacqueline Le from the CASP 2013 Cohort (our first student cohort!) joined the Jacobs School of Engineering Dean's Office as a Facilities and Fiscal Assistant
As an undergrad, Jacqueline was involved with the Health Frontiers in Tijuana Clinic, International House, the UC San Diego Scholars Society, and the Chancellor's Associates Scholars Program.
Congratulations Jacqueline on all of your success, we're so happy to continue having you as part of UC San Diego!

Living on Campus 2019-20
Room Selection 2019 (for those that are eligible to live on campus next year)
is just around the corner! Your 2019-20 housing eligibility status will be available online on January 31, 2019. Instructions on how to access your eligibility status will be emailed to your UC San Diego email account on that day. Key dates and deadlines will also be posted. TRITON 5K - APRIL 7TH, 2019
|
Join Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla and 3,000 fellow students, alumni, staff, faculty and friends for a 3.1 mile adventure through the heart of campus-past iconic campus landmarks like the world-renowned Geisel Library and the Stuart Collection's "Sun God" in support of student scholarships.
All ages are welcome to participate in the Triton 5K. Please note, that only the top male & female finishers in the listed age ranges will be considered for an award.

SAN DIEGO FOUNDATION COMMON APPLICATION AVAILABLE
|
The San Diego Foundation Common Scholarship Application gives San Diego students access to more than 100 scholarships that comprise our Community Scholarship Program by filling out just one application.
Scholarship awards will be made to students who will be attending:
- Four-year universities
- Community colleges
- Career/technical schools
- Graduate and medical schools
- Teaching credential programs
Students can access the application at SDFoundation.org/CSA.
The deadline to complete the application is

FREE NAME AND GENDER-MARKER CHANGES CLINIC
|
Free clinic for transgender and non-binary individuals seeking name and/or gender-marker changes on official documents.
Based on recent demand, the LGBT Resource Center is going to pilot having the Clinic twice monthly for the first part of the year - the second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday of the month for January through March.
2019 dates:
- February 12th and 27th.

| DISCOVER THE LAW PROGRAM WITH STUDENT LEGAL SERVICES |
Discover the Law is a legal education program comprised of a series of 39 workshops on law-related topics. It is designed to educate students about their rights and responsibilities, inform them about different areas of law, provide tips on how to jump start their career whether in law or another profession, and teach practical ways to stay savvy and safe.
This is a great opportunity for students thinking of applying to law school, but students need not be considering a career in law to participate. Discover the Law is not offered for academic credit.
You may wish to participate in Discover the Law because:
* By attending just four of the 39 workshops on 33 different topics, you will earn a certificate that demonstrates your commitment to learning more about the law and law-related issues.
* You will gain practical knowledge that will help you avoid legal problems.
* You will enhance your resume or graduate school application.
* You will get to connect with professionals and other students interested in law and law-related topics.

DORIS DUKE CONSERVATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM
|
The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at the University of Washington is a diverse, committed, and creative community from around the country that aims to change the face, practice and future of conservation.
What: They support emerging conservation scholars in developing innovative perspectives and skills by providing opportunities to strengthen connections between nature conservation, identities, and environmental justice.
Who can apply: The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program are looking for 20 undergraduates who reflect cross-cultural perspectives with an emphasis on students from underrepresented groups in the conservation field.

| HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND (HSF) SCHOLARSHIP |
HSF is the nation's leading provider of scholarships and services designed to give Latino students full access to the opportunity a college education can provide. Founded in 1975, they have awarded over $588 million in scholarships. Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000, and Finalists who do not received financial awards nevertheless qualify to be HSF Scholars and have access to their full range of Scholar Support Services, such as leadership development, mentoring, and career services that include recruitment for internships and job opportunities.

SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP AT COLUMBIA BUSINESS SCHOOL
|
Columbia Business School is seeking outstanding applications for the 2019 Summer Research Internship program. The highly selective program provides an intellectually stimulating environment and introduces the interns to the world of business research. Under the guidance of Columbia Business School's leading faculty, interns will take an active role on a research project in one of the following areas: accounting, economics, finance, marketing, management, decision sciences, operations, and data analytics. This is a multi-disciplinary program and candidates from all majors are encouraged to apply.
The internship program is designed for undergraduate students at the end of their sophomore or junior year and first year Masters students. Exceptional students from other classes are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Most of the top interns have gone to leading MS and PhD programs in Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Management, Operations Research, and Data Science. Many have been selected to join CBS as full-time Research Associates or admitted to one of CBS' PhD programs.
All prospective interns must have the following qualifications:
- Enthusiasm for research, intellectual curiosity, and excellent communications skills
- The ability to learn new concepts and tools and apply them to your projects
Skills for Quantitative Projects
- Most Economics, Finance, and Accounting (and economics based management and marketing) projects require:
- Strong background or major in econometrics and statistics
- The ability to run regressions using statistical packages such as STATA or R
- Quantitative projects in Management, Marketing or DRO require:
- Background or major in mathematics, computer science, or engineering
- Strong programming background (C/C++, Python, R, or Matlab, etc.)
- Some projects may require the ability to do text processing using Python or Perl familiarity with basic machine learning algorithms
Skills for Behavioral projects in Management or Marketing
- Interest in behavioral experiments - background or major in Psychology
- Knowledge of SPSS, some projects may require knowledge of Python or R
The program runs from May 28, 2019 - July 26 or August 2, 2019 (end dates to be determined). On-campus housing and a stipend will be provided.
The Application Deadline is 11:59pm EST on March 1, 2019. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The application process is highly competitive, only qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.

| 2019 CORE QUE LLUEVA CAFE SCHOLARSHIP |
Chicano Organizing & Research in Education (CORE) recently announced this year's scholarship opportunity. It is
open to undocumented high school/GED graduates who will enroll for the first time in an accredited college or university in the U.S. This scholarship aims to support the dreams, hopes and aspirations of college bound undocumented students so that they can earn their college education.
Here are the eligibility requirements:
- Must be an undocumented student (DACA students are eligible).
- Must be or will be a high school/GED graduate who will enroll for the first time in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Note: "Due to limited funds, current college students who have already graduated high school or received their GED are not eligible."

The Writing + Critical Expression Hub ("Writing Hub") can help!
Located in the Geisel Library, the Writing Hub offers every UC San Diego student free one-on-one help with any writing project-from cover letters to lab reports, research papers to grant proposals. Visit the Writing Hub to meet with a supportive, well-trained peer writing mentor who will help you gain perspective on what works and what can be improved in your writing.
