DAILY PRAYERS FOR THE SPECIAL
GENERAL CONFERENCE

Daily Prayers are being called for around the Special General Conference of our international United Methodist denomination. This General Conference, meeting in St. Louis, is now three weeks away. We are asked to be in a covenanted time of prayer together in order to find strength together, no matter what is decided at this General Conference. We are asked to lift prayer for the individuals representing our Mountain Sky area, as well as, no matter the outcome, to continue to be vital congregations sharing the grace of Jesus across our districts and conference.  We are asked to pause for prayer daily at noon. Prayer guide cards are available in the narthex.

~ IMPORTANT NOTE FROM TRUSTEES ~

Penn Gildersleeve, Chair of UMCE's Trustees, is asking that everyone who uses the church building be aware that Penn is the point of contact for after-hours access to the church building and the rooms within the building.

Please do not contact pastor Deb, the church office manager, or the custodians if you need access. Penn is the sole contact for these types of needs/requests. If Penn is away on vacation or business he will designate someone to be his contact in his absence.

Penn's cell phone is (303) 902-9959 and his land line is (303) 674-4899.  He can be to the church in a couple of minutes.

Just a reminder that there is an updated church directory next to the phone in the church kitchen with Penn's numbers. Thank you for your understanding.

NEW PRAYER CANDLE TABLE DURING WORSHIP
at Both Services

We are offering a new element in our worship experience--a table of prayer candles.  During our opening hymn, anyone wishing to lift up a quiet, private prayer by lighting a candle may do so.  Simply come forward, light one of the lighting sticks from the central candle, use it to light a votive candle and silently offer your prayer.   When you are finished lighting your candle you may pass your light to another person or extinguish it in the sand.  Please stay as long as you like.  If you wish to have Rev. Deb or Rev. Joyce pray with you, you may share your prayer with one of them.  We hope you will enjoy yet another way to offer your prayers.

February 17: Empathy and Communication, Part 1
Facilitator: Gayla Michelin
Empathy Exploration: I once heard someone say "Don't Do anything that is Not Play", so Let's play "EMPATHY BLOCKERS" to create awareness of how we can really connect at a heart level with a person in a dialogue. Let's discuss the meaning of Empathy, and also what it is not.  Even the most well intended reassurance can be painful.  Also take a brief glance at Needs and the Feelings behind them to prepare for next week's more in-depth discussion on those.  Hope to see you there!

February 24: Empathy and Communication, Part 2
Facilitator: Gayla Michelin
What Makes Life More Wonderful? What Feeling Words are actually judgmental rather than a true feeling? "Thou Shall Not Judge...."  Do we judge without realizing it?  We will look at where our feelings arise from.  Hint:  it's Met and/or Unmet needs.  If there is time we could touch on making requests.  So little time and so much to discuss... Oh, did I mention a card game?   I will bring the cards to facilitate our discussion. I am looking forward to it.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

Love Makes the Difference

These three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
-- I Corinthians 13:13

As we look to First Corinthians 13 "The Love Chapter" this Sunday in the message, and as we celebrate Valentine's Day in the coming week, I wanted to share words by Gary Chapman from his book, The 5 Love Languages.

"I am significant. Life has meaning. There is a higher purpose. I want to believe it, but I may not feel significant until someone expresses love to me. When my spouse or partner lovingly invests time, energy and effort in me, I believe that I am significant. Without love, I may spend a lifetime in search of significance, self-worth, and security. When I experience love, it influences all of those needs positively. I am now freed to develop my potential. I am more secure in my self-worth and can now turn my efforts outward instead of being obsessed with my own needs. True love always liberates.

In the context of relationships, if we do not feel loved, our differences are magnified. We come to view each other as a threat to our happiness. We fight for self-worth and significance, and our relationship becomes a battlefield rather than a haven.

Love is not the answer to everything, but it creates a climate of security in which we can seek answers to those things that bother us. In the security of love, we can discuss differences without condemnation. Conflicts can be resolved. Two people who are different can learn to live together in harmony. We discover how to bring out the best in each other. Those are the rewards of love."

In Christ's Grace,
Pastor Deb
