Thanks to all who came to our first PTSO meeting last week.  We had a standing room only crowd!  Thanks also to the Rice Street Singers and Dr. McDonald for providing us with an amazing musical interlude.

SCHOOL COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES NEEDED

Each Fall, parents elect representatives to the WHS School Council.   School Council is comprised of students, teachers, parents and community members who all work together with Dr. Chisum to examine and make recommendations on school policies, as mandated by the state education department. School Council meetings are held monthly, generally on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 2:30 pm.

We have  two parent slots open for a 2-year term. The PTSO Vice-Presidents, Connie Burton and Andra Jensen are organizing the election this year.  If you would like to become a candidate, contact them at [email protected]

Please provide a brief paragraph about yourself (approx. 250 words or less) and why you would like to serve on School Council.   Deadline to submit statements is Wednesday, 9/26.

Challenge Success 

The Challenge Success initiative at WHS is well underway for the 2018-19 school year. Our theme this year is 'Achieving Balance' and we will be focusing on three areas - workload, sleep, and technology. More info to come.

OCTOBER PTSO MEETING

"Raising Resilient Teens"

Thursday, October 11th @ 7:00pm

In collaboration with the Wellesley Education Foundation, the WHS PTSO invites Wellesley High School and Middle School parents to attend an evening on   "Raising Resilient Teens."    

Dr. Elizabeth Booma, MD, Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consult Liaison Service at Newton Wellesley Hospital will speak on Thursday, October 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the WHS Library.  Joining Dr. Booma will be her colleagues from NWH's The Resilience Project.   

The primary aim of The Resilience Project is to support the development of good mental health in children and adolescents through close collaboration with parents and schools.  Click on the following link for more information  www.nwhresilienceproject.org .   We look forward to seeing you then! 

The PTSO will also approve minutes and vote in our budget for FY19.
Catch the buzz!  WEF Spelling Bee registration is now open!

Wellesley Spelling BeeThe Wellesley Education Foundation's Spelling Bee is an old school community spelling bee which brings the whole town together for an evening of fun and fundraising. Over 50 teams participate in the Bee and represent local businesses, law firms, alumni groups, community organizations, and school PTOs, as well as student teams from Wellesley High School and Wellesley Middle School.

On Wednesday, November 14th, 7pm at the Sprague School Gym our community adult spelling contest and fundraising event is back for the 29th time! This high spirited community event is right around the corner! How to catch the buzz:

Support the Bee -- CLICK HERE to make a donation or sponsor a high school, middle school or community team. Many levels are available for sponsorsh ip from $125 to $2500. The Bee is our biggest fundraiser of the year!  Any amount is appreciated.

Bee a Team -- CLICK HERE to register a team of three spellers for $500. Who knows whom you may be spelling against that night? Last year 54 teams participated in the Bee! Deadline for registering a team is October 19.
