FEBRUARY NEWS
2019
Dear Friend of MCF,

Despite the frigid temperatures, we are excited that work has begun at the former Chris' Landing Marina, now Swimming River Park in Middletown Township.  After 10 years of pushing for the preservation of the property, we continue to celebrate it's preservation and look forward to watching the transformation into a beautiful county park!

Also of note, we are now embarking on the renewal of our land trust accreditation.  Please scroll to the bottom of this email for instructions on how to provide feedback about your experience with us.

Sincerely,
William D. Kastning, AICP
Executive Director

Partner Spotlight: Cream Ridge Winery is Crazy about Preservation!

Tim Schlitzer, COO, and Jerry Amabile, owner, of Cream Ridge Winery in Upper Freehold Township are truly crazy about the importance of supporting everything local. Dedicated supporters of local wine, local produce, local farming and local land preservation, they took action through their Poco Locol sangria, a product made exclusively from locally grown grapes.  A portion of the sale of each bottle is donated to Monmouth Conservation Foundation to support local farms.  To learn more, please continue reading here.
Work at Swimming River Park, formerly Chris' Landing and Deli,  Commences in the River Plaza Area

Locals may have noticed activity at the former Chris' Landing Marina, now Swimming River Park, last week.  400-450 cubic yards of soil in two contaminated areas, known as "hot spots", were removed from the Park.  This soil was tainted with remnants of dredge material deposited on the property that once sat at the bottom of the River and some chemicals that seeped into the ground from equipment stored on the property.  This is just the beginning of much progress to come as it undergoes a transformation into a beautiful park owned and operated by the County of Monmouth.

MCF facilitated the purchase of the former marina and deli and continues to assist with the environmental clean up and park development before it opens to the public.

New Jersey Statehouse
Good News for Preservation Funding Thanks to the Keep It Green Effort

On Thursday, a bill appropriating preservation funds advanced out of the Senate Environment and Energy Committee with unanimous, bi-partisan support.

The bill (S2920), sponsored by Senators Smith, Bateman, and Greenstein, concerns the constitutional dedication of corporate business tax revenue to fund preservation programs within New Jersey. If approved, the bill will detail how corporate business tax funds are spent for preservation and stewardship of open space, parks, farmland and historic sites.  Nonprofit land trusts, such as Monmouth Conservation Foundation, municipalities and counties will benefit from increased funding under the bill.  To learn more, please continue reading here.
