Sunday, October 28, The Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost

The Rev. Sarah Shofstall will preach at all services. Jennifer Cochran and
The Gateway Band will play at the 9 a.m. Mostly Jazz Mass. Music will include the African American spirituals, "There Is a Balm in Gilead" and "Fix Me, Jesus." During the 11:15 a.m. Choral Eucharist, the Trinity Choir will sing "Christ Has No Body" by our own Todd Wilson.

Chapel Chat  - during the 9 a.m. service
All children PreK - Grade 4 are invited to meet Children, Youth and Family Minister Kate McFadden in the Chapel for a children's gospel activity during the readings and sermon reflection.

Bible Study: Community Gospel Reflections  - 10:10 a.m. 
This class is the first of a multi-session study reflecting on how the gospel lesson of the day can enrich our lives. Janet Lechleitner will lead the discussion. All are welcome to join in. Visit the Community Gospel Reflections information table in the Promenade to learn more.

Forum: Being Sanctuary - 10:10 a.m.
The Rev. Lisa O'Rear, Rector of St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Mentor, will share her congregation's experience of hosting a refugee family and  becoming a Sanctuary Church.

Becoming Beloved Community Brown Bag Lunch - 12:30 p.m.
Trinity's Becoming Beloved Community Group invites all to a brown bag lunch on Sunday, October 28 following the 11:15 a.m. service. The group will discuss the prevalence of voter suppression and how it perpetuates white supremacy, particularly in light of the upcoming 2018 midterm elections. 

Bring your own lunch or purchase one at Subway or Café Ah-Roma. (If you purchase your lunch, we suggest that you order it prior to the 11:15 service to pick up after church.) Contact Debbie Likins-Fowler for information at 

Get Out the Vote Table
To help get out the vote for the November 6 General Election, Cleveland Votes, a non-partisan nonprofit organization, will have a table in the Promenade after the 8 a.m. service and during the 10 a.m. education hour. Stop by to sign up for a reminder to vote from Cleveland Votes.  

Shambhala Meditation Center Tour Sign-Up Table
Trinity's Cathedral Life Committee will have a registration table in the Promenade on Sunday for the November 4 Shambhala Meditation Center Tour. Stop by to sign up. (See Tour Cleveland Shambhala below for details)



This Sunday is Commitment Sunday for our "Answering God's Call" stewardship 2019 campaign. You will be invited to bring your completed pledge form (or a provided pledge acknowledgment card if you have already pledged) to the altar so it can be blessed. Afterward, please join your Trinity kindred for a "Thank You!" reception in recognition that Gifts Multiply!

Marie Kittredge, 2019 Stewardship Campaign Chair, will give a Ministry Moment about how stewardship is so much more than just a financial pledge. We are called upon to share all our God-given gifts of "time, talent and treasure." You can access the previous three  Ministry Moments by Bill Fuller ("Many Cups of Water"), Janet Lechleitner ("Trinity Is My Second Family"), and Miriam Torres-Souffront  ("Lost, Found and Restored").

Choral Evensong, Community Supper
Wednesday, October 31, 6 p.m.

The October 31 Choral Evensong -- the Eve of All Saints -- will be a special service featuring the beautiful and deeply moving Requiem by English composer Herbert Howells, sung by the Trinity Chamber Singers with Todd Wilson conducting. Howells composed this work in 1932 or 1933, and its existence remained unknown until its eventual publication in 1980. This slightly extended choral work will take the place of a homily at this service.

A community soup and salad supper will follow ($6 suggested donation).

Parents Night In"  Private Dinner & Cooking Class
Saturday, November 3, 5 - 8 p.m.

Parents of Pre-K through Grade 5 children are invited to participate in a special "Parents Night In" on Saturday, November 3. Trinity moms and dads will enjoy a private Italian dinner that they cook themselves under the direction of Chef Teresa Scrimenti from 5 to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, the kids will enjoy dinner, games and a movie with chaperones on-site. Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

Come hungry to the Cathedral on All Saints Sunday for the first Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for the 2019 Youth Mission Trip! "Saints in Our Lives" will be the theme for the November Sacred Space meeting.  Who are the saints that inspire you? They could be famous or not, living or not, formally religious or not. Forum: Refugee/Immigrant Family Support

As immigration bans, aggressive ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) tactics, and family separations have made headlines, the needs of those struggling to find a more promising life in America have become greater and more complex. Come to the November 11 Forum where Trinity member Jeff Spiess will share what the Refugee/Immigrant Family Support group is  doing to fulfill the command to welcome the stranger.  He will also discuss opportunities for further service. 
 

Get-Acquainted Brunch

Ronald J. Sider's Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger: Moving from Affluence to Generosity will be discussed at the November 13 meeting.  "Ronald J. Shirley MacLaine's The Camino: A Journey of the Spirit will be discussed at the December 11 meeting. The Camino is a riveting culmination of Shirley MacLaine's extraordinary -- and ultimately rewarding -- road through life.

Retreat for Inquirers!
Friday, November 16 (Evening) - Saturday, November 17 (All Day)

Learn more about the Episcopal Church at the November "Inquirer's
Retreat." Led by the Rev. Sarah Shofstall, this retreat is for those who are new to the Episcopal Church and want to learn more. It will prepare those who seek to be received or confirmed by the Bishop. This retreat is also for long-time members who want a refresher on what it means to be a Christian and what it means to be an Episcopalian. 

The Inquirer's Retreat will be held at Bellwether Farm, the  Diocese of Ohio's  camp, retreat and education center  (4655 State Rt. 60 / Wakeman, OH), the evening of Friday, November 16, and all day Saturday,
November 17.

Donations Needed for Marion-Sterling Food Baskets
By Sunday,  November 18

We will provide Thanksgiving food baskets to our neighboring Marion-Sterling School children and families. Our goal is to serve ALL the families at the school -- approximately 180 baskets. Trinity Cathedral has been a Marion-Sterling School community partner since 2005.

You can help by  providing food  items from  the  official shopping list  and/or you can make a donation by check (indicate "M-S Baskets" on the check memo) or  online .   Bring grocery items  to Trinity Cathedral and drop off at the Hospitality Desk by Sunday,  November 18. Baskets will be packed on November 18 and delivered to Marion-Sterling School on Monday,
November 19.

Marion-Sterling Thanksgiving Basket Packers, Drivers
Help is needed after the 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services on Sunday,
November 18 to pack Thanksgiving food baskets for Marion-Sterling School families. Drivers are needed on Monday, November 19 at 10 a.m. to delivery the baskets to the school. Contact David Cratty at dcratty1@sbcglobal.net if you can help. 

Urban Farm Gardeners:  Volunteers are needed at Trinity's Urban Farm to help with harvesting, composting, mowing, weeding and harvesting. Work crews meet every Saturday, 9 a.m. - Noon, at the Farm (East 35 Street and Central Avenue). You need not stay the entire time. Community Supper Help: Wednesday night community suppers have resumed and volunteers are needed! We are currently looking for help to set the tables before the meal (around 5 p.m.) and to clear the dishes after the meal at 7:30 p.m. Volunteers need not serve every week but can help when they are available. Donations for Outreach Programs at St. Luke's Church
During October, Trinity's Becoming Beloved Community group is collecting donations of plastic grocery bags and four-pack rolls of bath tissue to support the Mobile Pantry and "Your Neighbor's Cloak." These are two important neighborhood outreach programs at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, located in Cleveland's Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. Donations can be dropped off at the Hospitality Desk in the Piazza.


Tour Cleveland Shambhala Meditation Center

Join us for tea/coffee and dialogue with our fellow brothers and sisters of the Muslim faith to put an end to the stigma behind their faith on November 8 from 7 - 9 p.m. (registration 6:30 - 7 p.m.) at First Lutheran Church (1019 W 5th Street / Lorain 44052).

The "Tea Time for Peace" goal is to build bridges of faith by focusing on our similarities and celebrating our differences. Spread the word. Bring your families and friends. Keep the tea and the conversations flowing!
