Tickets Available for the Great Gateway Gathering!
 
Get your tickets now for the Great Gateway Gathering, our annual celebration and fundraiser to directly support the students and teachers of Gateway Middle and High schools. Parents/guardians of Gateway's students and Gateway's faculty/staff are invited to join the Gathering party on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the African American Arts and Culture Complex for an evening of delicious food, open bar, and - special this year - game night! This is a 21+ event and parking is available onsite.  Reserve your tickets here.


Parent Training Night, April 23 - 5:30PM

Wellness Together will be joining us on Tuesday, April 23 at 5:30 PM in the Library to discuss adolescent development and healthy parenting strategies. GHS and GMS parents are all invited to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.

Student Opportunities

Advancing the Dream Career Fair - January 23 from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Hosted by the Office of Mayor London Breed, Advancing the Dream Career Fair is a great opportunity for students to explore career development and internship opportunities. The Career Fair is part of the Mayor's Opportunities for All , a youth internship and job training program, to help the next generation of San Franciscans gain valuable experience, connect with mentors, and prepare for their future careers. The Career Fair will offer job opportunities, job readiness workshops and activities, and resources to help youth access and be successful in jobs and internships. There will be prizes and giveaway for participants, as well as employers conducting interviews and hiring on the spot -- 200 jobs available at the Fair. More information HERE .




Enterprise for Youth Job Readiness Workshop Series

The Enterprise for Youth Job Readiness Training Program is a 7 week series of workshops, aimed to prepare students for the world of work through exposure to meaningful educational and career opportunities. 

The workshops will be held after school at Gateway High School, and each student who completes the Job Readiness Training will receive a $125 stipend and access to year-round employment opportunities. 

Students who successfully complete the workshop series can participate in a summer and/or fall paid internship and earn college credit. Internship fields include medicine, law, education, gardening, and many more -- with lots of great job opportunities special for the summer of 2019! 

Spots will be filled on a first apply/first filled basis. Students in all grades are encouraged to apply. Apply HERE

Free Engineering Program for Young Women at UC Berkeley

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at UC Berkeley is excited to share the High School Engineering Program (HSEP) with Gateway students. This program is designed to be an interactive, educational experience that shows what a future in engineering has to offer. 

In the span of the 10 week program, you will gain an understanding in various fields of engineering, design and build an impactful technical project, and work closely with a mentor from the engineering field. All female-identifying high school students currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade are welcome to apply. No prior engineering or computer science/programming knowledge is required! This program is designed to introduce engineering concepts from the ground up and will cover all the necessary fundamentals. 

This program is free and held at UC Berkeley campus on Saturdays from 10am-1pm from 2/9-4/27. Applications are due by 1/28. More information and application HERE .

College counseling class may be over, but the college application process is not! Remember to follow through on your applications by: 
  • Logging into your student portals to check your application status
  • Sending SAT and/or ACT scores to schools
  • Completing FAFSA if you have not done so already
  • Applying to scholarships

Juniors

We are excited to start College Counseling 11 this semester! Juniors and Junior parents/families, we will start using the college corner to share information about test dates and registration deadlines for the SAT and ACT in the College Corner starting with the next issue of the CommuniGator. We will also initiate this process in class. 
Ways To Get Involved  WTGI
  • Donate supplies and snacks for Student Support Office (SSO) and classrooms - WISHLIST
  • Donate plant containers/pots/planters of all sizes, from small to extra large and sturdy patio furniture (tables and chairs). Bring items to the garden or contact Mr. Berthiaume to coordinate pick-up or drop-off.
     
  • Check out the robotics team WISHLIST. Please donate if you can.
  • Contribute food or help with our monthly Teacher Appreciation Lunch - Friday, February 15 - SIGN-UP

Aquí se encuentran los requisitos actuales de educación física de Gateway High School e instrucciones sobre cómo ingresar las horas y verificar el progreso hacia la finalización de sus requisitos.

Feria de Carreras Avanzando el Sueño

Organizada por la Oficina de la Alcaldesa London Breed, es una gran oportunidad para que los estudiantes exploren el desarrollo profesional y las oportunidades de pasantías. La Feria de Carreras es parte de Oportunidades para Todos
, un programa de pasantías para jóvenes y capacitación laboral, para ayudar a la próxima generación de residentes de San Francisco a obtener una experiencia valiosa, conectarse con mentores y prepararse para sus futuras carreras. La Feria de Carreras ofrecerá oportunidades de trabajo, talleres y actividades de preparación para el trabajo y recursos para ayudar a los jóvenes a acceder y tener éxito en trabajos y pasantías. Habrá premios y obsequios para los participantes, así como los empleadores que realicen entrevistas y contraten en el lugar: 200 empleos disponibles en la Feria. Más información AQUI.




Serie de talleres de capacitación del programa Enterprise para jóvenes

El programa de capacitación Enterprise para jóvenes es una serie de talleres  con duración de 7 semanas , destinados a preparar a los estudiantes para el mundo laboral a través de exposición a oportunidades educativas y profesionales significativas.

Los talleres se llevarán a cabo después de la escuela en Gateway High School, y cada estudiante que complete la Capacitación de Preparación para el Trabajo recibirá un estipendio de $ 125 y acceso a oportunidades de empleo durante todo el año.

Los estudiantes que completen con éxito la serie de talleres pueden participar en una pasantía pagada de verano y/o otoño y obtener créditos universitarios. Los campos de pasantías incluyen medicina, derecho, educación, jardinería y muchos más, ¡con muchas oportunidades de trabajo especiales para el verano de 2019!

Programa gratuito de ingeniería para mujeres jóvenes en UC Berkeley

La Sociedad de Mujeres Ingenieros (SWE) en UC Berkeley se complace en compartir el Programa de Ingeniería de Escuelas Secundarias (HSEP) con estudiantes de Gateway. Este programa está diseñado para ser una experiencia educativa e interactiva que muestra lo que el futuro en ingeniería tiene para ofrecer.

En el transcurso del programa de 10 semanas, obtendrá una comprensión en varios campos de la ingeniería, diseñará y construirá un proyecto técnico impactante, y trabajará en estrecha colaboración con un mentor del campo de la ingeniería. Todos las mujeres jóvenes estudiantes de escuela secundaria que identifiquen actualmente en los grados 9, 10 y 11 son bienvenidas a presentar su solicitud. ¡No se requieren conocimientos previos de ingeniería o informática / programación! Este programa está diseñado para introducir conceptos de ingeniería desde cero y cubrirá todos los fundamentos necesarios.

Este programa es gratuito y se lleva a cabo en el campus de UC Berkeley los Sábados de 10 am a 1 pm del 2/9 al 4/27. Las solicitudes deben presentarse antes del 1/28 . Más información y aplicación AQUI .

¡Estamos muy contentos de comenzar College Counseling 11 este semestre! Padres / familias de Juniors y Juniors, comenzaremos a usar la esquina de la universidad para compartir información sobre las fechas de las pruebas y los plazos de inscripción para el SAT y ACT a partir del próximo número de CommuniGator. También iniciaremos este proceso en clase.
Maneras de Participar participar
  • Donando macetas / contenedores para plantas/ macetas de todos los tamaños, muebles de patio  (mesas y sillas).  Coloque los artículos en el jardín o envíe un correo electrónico al Sr. Berthiaume para coordinar la recogida o la entrega. 
  • Mire la LISTA DE DESEOS del club de robotica. Por favor done si puede!
