WSMS Wrestlers Win
Middle School State Championship

The Willow Springs Middle School wrestlers won the Middle School State Championship this past Saturday at Southlake Carroll. Congratulations to the middle school state champions and coaches Jerry Quinton and Chip Garber on this exceptional accomplishment. We are #lovejoyproud!

WSMS and LHS Color Guard
Congratulations to the Willow Springs Color Guards who competed this past Friday at Burleson Centennial High School. The 8th grade team came home with 1st place in their classification and the 7th grade team received 4th place.

Both groups had awesome performances and we are excited to see them perform at their next competition on February 8 at Haltom High School.

The Lovejoy High School Color Guard competes this Saturday, February 2 at Wakeland High School. Their performance will begin at 8:10 PM.

LHS Region 10 Mock Trial Competition

Congratulations to the LHS Mock Trial Team on their recent Region 10 competition. LHS Senior Sydney Wong was named one of the top attorneys in the region. LHS Junior Maddie Roth was one of the top witnesses of the competition.

LHS Student Earns
Eagle Palm

Eagle Scout Alex Doran , a senior at Lovejoy High School, recently earned his eighth Palm. It took years of dedicated effort and the successful completion of requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills. Eagle Palms are an extremely rare accomplishment achieved by only a small fraction of Scouts. Only 5% of Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle and less than 1% go on to earn a Palm.  After receiving the highest rank in scouting, Alex earned three bronze, three gold and two silver Palms. For his remarkable achievement, Alex was congratulated and recognized by both Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Greg Abbott. Congratulations, Alex. We are #lovejoyproud!

WSMS 8th Grader Takes First
in Chess Tournament
WSMS 8th grader Emily Perry competed in the Texas Region 3 Scholastic Chess Championship. The tournament consisted of schools from 39 counties in Northeast Texas and included competitors from Allen ISD, Dallas ISD, Imagine Academy, and more. Emily earned 1st place as the Middle School JV Champion. Emily practices every Monday after school with Mr. Chase Crocker and the WSMS Chess Club. Congratulations Emily. We are #lovejoyproud!

LHS Students Thanked
For Act of Kindness
Prior to the Christmas break a group of Lovejoy High School students assisted with changing a tire in downtown McKinney. Lori Spell has reached out with a letter of thanks. We are proud to share this with the Lovejoy Community:

“My name is Lori Spell, I was the recipient of the tire change on December 14, 2019, in Downtown McKinney.

I would like to thank the students and their parents for not only helping me that day, but for raising respectful young men and women and for teaching them the necessities of life. Each student, Will Muirhead, Zane Edwards, Trevor Malik, John Armstrong, Camille Hendrix, Lily Bouldin, Maci Martelloni and Carson Hockersmith were each so kind and fun to talk to. I told the group that I would pay them if they would change my flat tire. Without hesitation, the boys agreed and knew exactly what to do! I stood and talked to the girls and told them that when they were ready to date that they needed to find boys that were kind, respectful and set the example like their guy friends did! They got a good laugh out of it!

When the boys were finished with my tire change, I started to pay them and they refused the money and just kindly said “Merry Christmas”! This meant the world to me! You see, my husband passed away a few years ago and I have been raising my daughter, now 12 years old, on my own and trying to teach her how to have a servants heart. This one act of kindness restored my faith in humanity and the integrity of our youth. I know our youth get labeled with being lazy, entitled and being disrespectful these days, however Will, Zane, Trevor, John, Camille, Lily, Maci and Carson deserve to be honored for not having that mentality!

Great job kids, not only for changing my flat tire that extremely cold December day, but for making a change for the future and for making a difference! Wishing each of you a great new year!!”

School Calendars
2019-2020 and 2020-2021
Survey Now Open
It is time for us to prepare school calendars for the next two school years: 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. The administration will take the recommended calendars to our Board of Trustees for approval on February 20. As our practice has been, we are reaching out to you for input in order to create calendars yielding the greatest satisfaction among all Lovejoy ISD stakeholders. You will find a link to the survey below.

As your superintendent, I will work to preserve a calendar that is in the best interest of both teaching/learning and a calendar that facilitates student attendance, which generates state funding. Please find some considerations, which will influence our decision-making:

  • For instructional reasons, all school weeks must have a minimum of three attendance days with four days as the preference.

  • Holidays such as Christmas must allow enough travel time for families so that we do not see a decreased attendance rate on the last school day prior to a holiday e.g. Friday before Christmas break.

  • The start of the school year must allow sufficient days for teacher professional development and teacher workdays to ensure we are ready for school to begin.

  • Student holidays will be aligned to traditional holidays such as Columbus Day when practical.

  • Single student holidays must be strategically placed to allow appropriate teacher planning to support the instructional calendar e.g. a student holiday on the Monday after Thanksgiving would not be a good time for teacher planning as the semester is almost over.

You may click here to access a printable version of the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 drafts. In general, these calendars are based on the current 2018-2019 calendar. You may click here to access the current calendar.

You may click here to complete the calendar survey. The survey will close at 5:00 PM on Friday, February 8. Should you have any questions regarding the survey please contact Stacey Dillon , Assistant to the Superintendent, at 469.742.8003.

Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of 1 letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

What's your SAT/ACT score? Want a better one? What do you need it to be?
Invest in a PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep program not just a class. Tutoring 101 helps high scorers get top scores, average students raise their scores and poor test takers achieve the scores colleges want. Tutoring 101 students have earned admissions and scholarships, and have saved thousands of tuition dollars every year.

Classes are conveniently located at Lovejoy High School. Call 972.359.0222 or email [email protected] for additional information.
