We Respond to Neighbors in Need: Notes in Transition

Our attention has been seized, and our hearts are moved by the plight of so many of our neighbors to the east and south. Fears we might have felt for ourselves have been displaced by an urge to respond. Leaders and members of congregations in Salem Presbytery have already been seeking direction in how to act. We are in conversation with friends in Coastal Carolina and New Hope Presbyteries, where the impact of Hurricane Florence has so far been greatest.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is sending teams to help determine needs and how we can make a difference for the better. If you or your congregation has a contact and a means of providing in-kind assistance to people in recovery, take advantage of the connection. As we await word from others concerning how we can best help, remember most advise us that cash can have a greater impact than resources we have to transport. Check out details on how to respond. Salem Presbytery will do its part to speed gifts to where they're most needed. Through our SEND Ministry we'll seek ways to coordinate teams that go to help in months to time. We encourage congregations to share word of your plans with us, so we can plan for the greatest impact, all in response to the need of our brothers and sisters, all in response to the call of Jesus Christ
