Exercise Your Right To Vote
Tuesday, November 6, 2018

A group met before Mass on October 13 to discuss the statewide measures on the November 6 Missouri ballot. A flyer with information about the required identification for voting, and a helpful handout on statewide ballot issues from the League of Women Voters were distributed. Issues on the November 6 ballot include limiting political contributions, lobbying, medical marijuana, a gas tax increase and even bingo! You can click the links below to review this information as you prepare to vote.

After Mass

Come celebrate an early Thanksgiving meal with the parish family. Parish delegates to the recent ECC Synod will share their experience and be available to answer your questions.
Community Planned Liturgy Preparations

Our first Community Planned Masses will be on November 3 and 4, and everyone is invited to prepare in several of ways. First, this will be our community’s opportunity to celebrate the feast of All Souls. As one way of honoring those who have gone before us, everyone is invited to participate in the entrance procession carrying a photo (framed if possible) or other memento to be placed on a special altar in the front of church. Second, the theme of these Masses will be gratitude, so start to open yourself to how you are grateful and to how God is grateful for you. Third, practice some of the special music that we will be using (which can be found on YouTube), “The God Who Only Knows Four Words” ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJOQ9AZVYXc ) and “How Sweet It Is” ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSQdRz-HlJw ). Finally, invite family, friends and acquaintances to worship with our community using a creative and fresh expression of the Catholic Mass.
New Diocesan Bishop - Pacific Northwest

Kiva
Sts. Clare & Francis is preparing for their next Kiva gathering to extend loans. It will be held Saturday November 3 at 3:30 pm in the Fireside Room. Everyone is welcome to stop by, observe or participate if you are interested. It’s easy to participate. Just check out the Kiva website https://www.kiva.org / and pick a few borrowers that appeal to you. Jot down their names and countries and bring them along.

At our last meeting we made a loan to An, a 51 year old woman living in a remote area in Vietnam.  She has had a manufacturing business making wood furniture for more than ten years. The main hardship that An faces is a lack of capital. She was requesting a loan to purchase wood for woodworking. Since 2013 she has successfully repaid five loans from the local micro-finance institute. An is married and has three children. With her business profit she hopes for her family to be healthy and happy, to build a new house, and for her business to do well.
Matthew 25 Fund Needs Replenishment

The Matthew 25 Fund helps SCF members who need financial assistance. All information concerning the people with whom we work is held in the strictest confidence. This fund needs to be replenished. If you would like to contribute to this fund, make your check payable to Sts. Clare & Francis, write “Matthew 25” in the memo line, and place it in the collection basket. “All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.” (Acts 3:44)
Book Club

Kay Schmitt is offering a book club opportunity to all our members. If you are interested, please contact Kay by email ( kayschmitt105@gmail.com ) or while visiting at church.
Sacristans Assistance Needed - Update

If you are interested in serving as a sacristan on either Saturday or Sunday, we would love for you to join us! The work is not difficult and one of the current sacristans would train you. Plus, there are always people at Mass who are willing to assist in putting things away.

Peace has offered to facilitate the movement of furniture on Saturdays, so the "heavy lifting" for that date has been significantly reduced. If that was holding you back from volunteering in this ministry, then it is no longer an issue!

Please contact Kathy Grewe at  dlbklg8075@sbcglobal.net  or 314.894.7101 or Mary Vonderheide at  mary.vonderheide@sbcglobal.net  or 314.805.2087 if you would like to serve as a sacristan on either day. Your assistance would be sincerely appreciated.

Mercy Center

The Mercy Conference and Retreat Center has elected to open its chapel every Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm to anyone who wishes to come and spend some time in quiet prayer for immigrants and refugees. This will begin on Wednesday, July 11 and will continue through Wednesday, December 19 .  All are welcome.

Please come and hold our human family in prayer until we see a more positive change in the ways in which our country receives and welcomes immigrants and refugees. There will be prayer cards available for those who wish to use them. At 6:00 pm a bell will sound to indicate that the time for prayer is coming to a close.

Immigration is one of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Five Critical Concerns. “Believing in the dignity of every human person, we work for just and humane immigration laws in the U.S., address policies that push people to flee their countries, and examine the global impact of immigration.”

Prayer List
The Sts. Clare & Francis Prayer list is available for you to share prayer requests from you to your sisters and brothers who are walking this faith journey with you. Praying for one another when there are specific needs is one of the greatest ministries we can provide to one another. But, we cannot pray for events and happenings that we do not know about. Please share your prayers requests with the community. You can be as specific or general as you would like. Contact Jim Schratz with all prayer requests.
Caring Ministry
The Caring Ministry at Sts. Clare & Francis brings the loving presence of God, through a caring companion on the journey, when life is difficult. When we find ourselves struggling with illness, grief, depression, relationships, stress, the Caring Ministry is a supportive and listening presence - not counseling or problem solving. Don't go it alone; contact Sue Self or one of our priests to find out more, and see if it's a fit for you. We want to care for you.
