Chiropractic Technique at Sherman: A Complete System for Analyzing and Adjusting

Many chiropractic colleges teach a program of proprietary technical approaches that can make it difficult for students to “connect the dots” between options of care. At Sherman College, our core curriculum is designed to equip you with a comprehensive set of analysis and management tools and techniques that can be tailored to each patient’s individual needs. You’ll combine new technology, such as spinal imaging, with the fundamentals, such as manual palpation, to achieve the best experience for each individual.

At Sherman College, we equip you with a broad base of knowledge and skills. We provide countless opportunities to apply what you’re learning throughout your program of study, including:
  • 1,243 hours of classroom instruction focused on technique.
  • 4,700 total classroom hours in the overall program.
  • 1.5-year internship in our on-campus Chiropractic Health Center under the mentorship of our expert faculty doctors who become your mentors and guides.
Classroom Games Keep Students Engaged, Enhance Learning

In an effort to have a little fun and help students prepare for a quiz in CCM-Visceral Disorders, Instructor of Clinical and Basic Sciences Cynthia Treharne, D.C., had her students play a game of doctor-patient headbands. Doctors donned unicorn headbands that their patients would attach conditions to. The patients then acted out the conditions and answered questions from the doctors, leading them to recognize the disorders. Students alternated roles back and forth throughout the hour.

Treharne said her students enjoyed the activity and that the results were positively reflected on the quiz she later gave. “Sometimes we need to change how we study, not only for learning purposes, but to increase engagement in the process,” she explained.
Zeta Phi Chi Collects 4,300+
Items for Period Project

Zeta Phi Chi Chiropractic Sorority members recently led a drive to collect feminine hygiene products in support of the local Homeless Period Project (HPP). With the help of students, faculty and college friends, the organization collected 4,368 feminine hygiene products that have been assembled into “period packs” and sent to five schools in the Spartanburg area.

The college began working with HPP last year and now serves as one of its local drop-off locations. The organization provides feminine hygiene products to homeless women, women in poverty and school-aged girls who may not have access to these products. It also advocates for equal and tax-free access to these vital products with help from volunteers and donors.
Paws2Care Therapy Dogs Help Students Reduce Stress

Paws2Care brought several therapy dogs to campus recently to help students de-stress and become more “PAWSitive.” This event is part of Sherman College's Student Affairs program focused on improving students’ mental health by reducing stress and anxiety.

Sherman College students often juggle a heavy class load, a busy home life, a tight budget and more. Recognizing the need to help students reduce their stress and anxiety, the college offers several activities each quarter that focus on improving mental health. Did You Know: iSherman
Program Provides Loaded
iPad to Every Student

Sherman is the only chiropractic college giving all students and faculty members iPads and access to the latest technology to transform the curriculum and enhance teaching and learning. The college rolled out its Apple initiative, iSherman, in 2016, and now it’s in full play. Every student on campus is given an iPad, fully loaded with everything from syllabi to e-books, at no additional tuition cost.

Simply put, the iSherman initiative is revolutionizing the delivery of the doctor of chiropractic degree. Aside from simple e-books and course materials, the college is enriching the learning experience in other ways, particularly with video. Using a cloud-based system to host course lectures allows students to have 24/7 access to course content. This approach is of particular benefit to students who need a little more time to learn and review the material.

The iSherman Initiative allows Sherman College to transform the overall educational experience of our students, making it the chiropractic program of choice for those seeking an institution focused on their individual learning needs.
Laughter and Learning
in New Patient Reports

Seeking ways to invigorate her New Patient Report class, Instructor of Clinical Sciences Rosemary DePasque, D.C., ’90, infused some fun into a class memorization activity.

“In our New Patient Report course, the students have to memorize many steps of a report,” DePasque said of the course content. “It can help to have props such as masks, hats, capes, funny glasses, and more to make it interesting and memorable.”

She brought in a stash of fun items for her students and challenged them to make their partners laugh. “The students had a great time and found it easier to learn the steps,” she said of their success with the activity.
Employees Donate 40 Bags
to Overflow Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving around the corner, Sherman College employees were eager to help families in need have a happier holiday weekend by filling bags of groceries in partnership with the United Way of the Piedmont, The Bridge at Green Street and TOTAL Ministries.

Spartanburg’s Overflow Thanksgiving initiative provides boxes of nonperishable items to families to help them prepare a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. The filled tote bags also come with extra supplies to help feed children over the long holiday weekend. College employees filled 40 large tote bags to support this year’s Overflow Thanksgiving effort. Bags included basic Thanksgiving staples as well as pantry extras like cereal and peanut butter.
