Last Call for Grandparents Information!
The Feast of St Joseph and the Grandparents Mass and Reception is one of St Joseph High School's greatest traditions.

The day is truly one of the most rewarding for our Cadets and we want all of our students' grandparents to join in on the celebration!

BUT in order for Grandparents to be invited we need their information!

To help us invite Grandparents of current SJ Cadets, visit sjcadets.org/grandparentsday to complete an online form by the end of today, February 4 and we will send each of our SJ Grandparents a personal invitation! The Feast of St Joseph Mass and Reception will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

For questions, please contact Dawn Handwerker dhandwerker@sjcadets.or g. Thank You!

The Proof is in the People: Faculty & Staff Spotlights!
Margaret "Peggy" Marino '71, Science Teacher

I never would have imagined, when I graduated in 1971, that I would spend the majority of my adult life at St Joes. After graduating from SCSU, I taught science in Illinois for several years as my husband, “Doc” Marino, completed his education. Afterward, we returned to CT and in the winter of 1980, I was hired as a substitute. Over the next several years, I earned an MS, had my children, and taught Biology and Earth Science as a long-term sub. Something or someone always called me back to SJ.

In 1991, I became a full-time member of the Science Department. I was an assistant coach for Girls Track, co-moderated Student Council, and coached Cheerleading. In 1997, I was asked to take over Admissions and worked as the Admissions Coordinator and then, Director. I initiated the Student Ambassadors and the Freshman Guides. In 2000, I received the Alumni Recognition Award for Extraordinary Spirit, Dedication and Service. But as much as I enjoyed Admissions, I missed the connection you have with the kids when you are in the classroom. In 2015 I asked to return to the classroom. I have never regretted that decision. Catholic Schools Week & Multicultural Celebrations!
Thank You For Your Support!
Although the recent winter weather put a damper on some of our scheduled projects, we feel that 2019's Catholic Schools Week - as well as SJ's first ever multicultural celebration week - were a great success.

On Tuesday, Jan 28, faculty and staff were treated to a wonderful BBQ lunch, and on Friday, Feb 1, an incredible breakfast feast! Thank you to all the parents who so generously donated to make the events a success!

In addition, as part of our multicultural celebration, students learned about historical figures on SJTV, tasted different ethnic foods in the cafeteria, created a beautiful mural in our lobby, and enjoyed a delicious potluck celebration after-school on Friday.

It was a great week and we would like to thank all those who were involved! View photos on SmugMug.

Recommended: Scream Site by Justin Ireland!
Sabrina Sebastian's goal in life is to be an investigative reporter. For her first big story, she researches a popular website called Scream Site, where people post scary videos and compete for the most "screams." While Sabrina's friends and her sister, Faith, talk nonstop about the creepy viral videos, Sabrina just hopes that covering this trend will get her the internship she's wishing for. But as she digs into the truth behind the website, she begins to suspect that these aren't only aspiring actors and videographers at work. Some clips seem a little too real. And when Faith goes missing, Sabrina must race against time to save her sister from becoming the next video "star."
