Many ways to celebrate MLK Day in West Contra Costa

Our national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is next Monday. This holiday has become a national day of service, where we honor Dr. King's legacy by volunteering in our communities.
What a fitting way to honor our national hero, who once said,
"Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve."
I'll be participating in many of the events listed below, and hope to see you there. Dr. King's legacy gives us hope and strength for our future, especially at this challenging time in our nation's history.
Friday, January 18
What: 13th Annual Richmond MLK Peace March
When: 3 p.m.
Where: Gather at corner of Harbour Way and Florida Ave. Parade will proceed to Martin Luther King Jr. Park for a rally and speeches by Richmond youth
Sunday, January 20
What: Film screening, "Cracking the Code" The Racial Inequity
When: 4 p.m.
Where: El Cerrito High School Performing Arts Theater, 540 Ashbury Ave.
Monday, January 21
When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: 323 Brookside Drive, North Richmond
More: Crop planting, creek cleaning, musical performances and free farm fresh soups, cornbread and tea. There will be four additional locations for events during this time, all along the Richmond Greenway, at 6th Street, at 8th Street, at Carlson Blvd. and another at 16th Street.

City of El Cerrito Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 30-year Celebration Rally & Parade
When:
Rally at 8:30 a.m. and Parade assembles at 9:30 a.m. and starts at 10 a.m., with Celebratory Program at 11 a.m.
Where:
Rally and Parade both assemble at El Cerrito City Hall, 10890 San Pablo Ave. (at Manila Ave.), and Celebratory Program in the El Cerrito High School Performing Arts Theater, located at 540 Ashbury Ave. in El Cerrito
What:
MLK Day of Service -- Cleanup at Meeker Slough
When:
9 a.m. to noon
Where:
Meeker Slough, Bayside Drive, Richmond

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Happy Lot Farm and Garden, 45 1st Street (at Chanslor)
