ELC Anniversary:
Celebrating the People who Make it Happen
On Thursday, September 20 th, the ELC is inviting families to join us as we celebrate our 14 th anniversary. We hope to see you on the playground between 5:00 and 6:30 to join the fun, food, and music!

I have often shared that there are many “gifts” to be found at the ELC.  One of those gifts is clearly the gift of the teachers and staff who have been committed to our children and families over the years. Recently, a visitor to the ELC shared with me that “from the moment I walked in the door, I could tell this was a happy place”. She went on to share that she was greeted warmly, people smiled at her, and she felt welcomed. Then she visited in a classroom and she saw that same feeling carry over into the work that teachers were doing with children. She clearly recognized that the people at the ELC are committed to creating a positive and joyful place for all of those who work, play, and parent in our midst.

It seems fitting that as we celebrate our anniversary, we would celebrate the staff members who have reached their own milestones of service at the ELC. The history of our long-term staff sustains the culture that you experience daily. They carry on the traditions and help new staff, including myself this past year, understand and appreciate those traditions. They embody all that you have come to know in the ELC. The list below represents those staff members celebrating a milestone this week. We will recognize each of them on our board in the lobby and I encourage you to greet them at the Anniversary Party to share your appreciation for their service to the ELC.

I look forward to seeing each of you on Thursday!
Best,
Linda

Family Resources
As we transition into a new year we would like to share two articles from NAEYC with you in the hopes you may find helpful information.

In our effort to keep the lines of communication open, we will be offering monthly "Did You Know" segments in our family newsletter.

  1. Did you know? Our staff are trained to work with families to develop and implement individualized plans for children with persistent, serious, challenging behavior in order for them to be successful.
  2. Did you know? Families may visit any area of the facility during regular hours of operation in accordance with ELC procedures?
  3. Did you know? Program staff and families work together to plan events.
If you are in need of a babysitter you may create your own "posting" no larger than a half sheet of paper with contact information included. You may drop the posting off at the front desk for Kathy. The posting will be added to a bulletin board in our staff hallway. If a part-time sub or UD student is interested in babysitting they will reach out to you. The ELC cannot make recommendations and all communication must be made on personal time and not during working hours at the ELC.

Please understand that the ELC is in no way responsible for "outside" babysitting that is arranged privately between a part time sub or UD student and a family.

Are you looking for something fun to do this weekend?

Check out the Newark Community Day on Sunday, September 16th. Don't forget to stop by the ELC table on the green in front of Wolf Hall!
Important Reminders
We ask that there is no cell phone use in the building at drop off and pick up. Please take these opportunities to prepare your child for the start of their day with an extra hug and at pick up share in your child's excitement to see you by asking some open ended questions. Three great conversation starters you can use are:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. Tell me something good that happened today.
  3. What did you do on the playground?
The new semester at UD is in full swing which means we have students utilizing our observation booths. In an effort to provide the best experience for their observations we ask that if you bring your child to school in a stroller or car seat please take the stroller or car seat back to your car. You may only store your stroller or car seat in an observation booth if there is another family member picking your child up at the end of the day.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!
