Where Will You Be Tuesday, April 2nd?

Parents,

I'm keeping this short and sweet, in hopes that you will read and act on this simple request:

Please check to make sure you are registered to vote locally -- then mark your calendar to ensure you (and your spouse) make time to vote in the April 2nd D36 Referendum. Or, even better, vote by mail or vote in person during the  early voting period! Since April 2nd is right after Spring Break ends, voting early is a great idea.

If you need to get informed, please consider attending the first of several information sessions this Wednesday, 9:15am, in the Hubbard Woods School Resource Center. This is a great opportunity to get the background and ask your questions, so you can go to the polls and make an informed vote. All Winnetka residents are welcome at this and the other sessions, so invite your neighbors who don't have kids in the schools.

If you cannot come to the school this Wednesday, there are other upcoming opportunities, as well as a great deal of information, available on the district Web site. Every Winnetka resident should have received fact sheet pamphlets in the mail, so look for yours.

thanks,

Kendal Reis (HW PTO president)

Join the PTO Nominating Committee!

We are looking for HW parents who are interested in joining the nominating committee for next year's PTO Exec Board!

The committee will meet once with past president, Nidhi Singh, in February to help determine individuals (you can nominate yourself) who may be nominated for next year's open exec board positions (VP, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary).

Contact Nidhi Singh at [email protected] if interested.

Please Make Time During Parent-Teacher Conferences to Search the Lost and Found for Your Child's Lost Items

Did you know the PTO manages the Lost and Found at school?! Located in the front lobby of the school, the Lost and Found is over-crowded and causing hallway clutter. Any items that have not been retrieved by March 1st will be donated to the Winnetka Thrift Shop. Thanks parents!
Online Kindergarten Registration Open
Kindergarten pre-registration for 2019-2020 is now open. Children who will be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2019, are eligible to enroll. The District's Kindergarten Committee and Central PTO unanimously approved shifting to an online process versus an on-site process. This shift minimizes the time needed to pre-register and respects the busy schedules of our families.

The Registration process is completed in two steps:
  1. Complete an online pre-registration form: click here
  2. Provide proof of residency (documents can be uploaded online): child(ren)'s original birth certificate and a parent photo ID will need to be provided in person. Opportunities to do so will be made available in Spring 2019. The  list of documents that will meet these requirements is here: https://www.winnetka36.org/parents/prospectivefamilies
If you have any questions, please contact the District Office at  847-446-9400 .

Please Volunteer to Help With Recycling and Composting!
Be a part of educating our future generations to think before you toss. Wear gloves, stand at the three bins and answer kids' questions on which bin to toss in (we have visual aids to help you) -- it's that easy. We need volunteers to continue this program and the best part is, our planet will thank you!

Contact Elizabeth Leonard at:  [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity.

World Travelers...
Back from Sweden!

A huge thanks from the PTO to our World Traveler's Committee Chairs, Tine Tschackert and Nurca Bozkurt, who once again organized a fabulous exploration of a foreign country for our kids to experience! Here is a special recap:
We had a fantastic trip to Sweden as our very own Tine Tschackert presented her beautiful native country with her cute assistant (daughter), Liv. The kids were fascinated to learn all about Sweden from the Viking runestones to the Swedish Royal Family and the beloved song and dance of all ages in Sweden - Sma Grodorna (Little Frogs). Then our dedicated volunteers helped serve a delicious Swedish lunch to 130 eager kids! Thank you
Adriana Angulo, Anita Bohn, Heather Fields, Laura Glick, Natasha Harvey, Rachel Kozina, Meghan Miller, Rachel Morris and April Potterfield
Stay tuned for our next exciting destination in April.
