Rabbi Yoni hopes to provide shiurim throughout intersession, and this would be an opportune time to join the group, if you have not done so already. We are excited about the high number of students, alumni, and parents in the TABC community who benefit from this learning experience. Click

TABC's Senior Engineers
Play Shark Tank
|
Mr. Tiefenbrunn's senior engineering class presented their midterm projects this week in a Shark Tank-style competition. The senior presenters pitched their inventions to a panel of judges (the "investors") and went through the conceptualization, design and implementation of their innovations before pitching their marketing plan and expected profits. Some of the unique presentations included an automated mop, a toy car controlled by a smartphone app, and, the winner, Keven the Shtender, a unique mobile cart with sensors perfect for on the go learning! The students all started from the same basic foundation- a small programmable vehicle- and were encouraged to think about how they could take that simple concept and make it a fully realized product idea. They utilized sensors, 3D printing, Bluetooth functionality, and many other concepts covered in class as they brought their projects to life. According to Mr. Tiefenbrunn, "I couldn't be more proud of the work they did, the confidence they showed in presenting, and the pride they took in their creations." For more photos, click here.

Mock Trial Team Remains Undefeated
|
This past Wednesday night, the TABC mock trial team went head to head against Frisch. The trial revolved around the plaintiff, Avery Mansion, allegedly getting injured on a ride known as the hurricane at Captain Kidd's Pier amusement park due to the park's negligence. Attorneys Akiva Prager and Rami Gertler along with witnesses Shaya Novogrodsky, Yoni Weinreich, and Ned Krasnopolsky represented the defense, Captain Kidd's Pier, throughout the trial. At the end of the trial, TABC was announced the winner leaving the mock trial team with a 2-0 record.

To enhance our understanding of The Odyssey and thoughtfully examine the character of Odysseus as well as his many challenges, the students of Dr. Master's 9H English class worked collaboratively to create four digital newspapers, each one relating to one of the four adventure chapters of The Odyssey. As you can see if you click on the links below, each newspaper included news stories, op-ed articles (columnist's opinions), feature stories, letters to the editor, crossword puzzles, witty advertisements, photos with captions, and anything else the students envisioned in a newspaper (recipes, political cartoons, science articles, sports articles). The results were clever and, most importantly, showed not only how much knowledge the students gained but how they could apply it to their own world.

Father-Son Learning Isn't Just
for Limudei Kodesh!
|
While many parents enjoyed some time "off" during the end of December - New Year's week, one TABC parent generously offered his free time to educate our students. On Dec.25th, Mr. Barry Schechter, Max's('19) father, visited with students in the senior elective Introductory Economics classes. Mr. Schechter, who spent years on Wall Street, first on the trading floor and then on the marketing end of the investment world, shared many of his experiences with the students. Mr. Schechter's talk was not only very informative but quite entertaining as he recalled many anecdotes from the world of finance for the classes.
Since much of his work has entailed writing presentations, advertisements and promotional materials about investment products, he stressed to students how important it is to develop their writing skills for whatever career path they choose. Mrs. Reichardt and her students, including Max, would like to thank Mr. Schechter for spending the morning at TABC, enriching their study of economics.

Alumnus Chayal Aaron Eckstein '15 Addresses Juniors and Seniors
|
This past Friday many of the juniors and seniors had an opportunity to hear from Aaron Eckstein '15. Aaron is currently on break from his service in Tzahal. Aaron serves in an elite unit, called the Egoz commandos. Students were in rapt attention and with great respect listened to "one of our own" describe the incredibly intense training he received and the combat duty in which he has already participated. Aaron emphasized the psychological challenges involved in such intense training and how he prepares and copes with it. He also described the reason behind his decision to join Tzahal and specifically why he joined such an intense unit. Aaron explained the great need he feels to contribute to Am Yisrael and specifically make Torah the focal point of his life. Aaron described that Torah observance can be maintained as in all other situations, as long as one is resolute in their beliefs and commitments.
All of us at TABC are incredibly proud of Aaron and join him in Tefillot for his continued success and safety. A special thank you to Rabbi Jachter and Avi Proctor '19 for spearheading and coordinating this special inspirational opportunity.

Tzurba D'Rabbanan
End of Semester Celebration
|
Each afternoon, a large group of students head to the Beit Midrash during their free period to learn the ninth perek of Mesechet Sanhedrin with Rabbi Yoni Mandelstam. The program, classically known as Tzurba D'Rabbanan, focuses on reading skills and chavrusa style learning. After a long semester of dedicating free time towards Torah L'shma, the group enjoyed some poppers and french fries from Dougie's. We are very proud of those students who participate daily in our Tzurba D'rabbanan program.

Junior Intramurals
Captain Yonah Hook hit a game winner in the semis and Avi Stuart hit the game winner against the #1 Rumble Ponies as the #2 seeded Rock Hounds took home the championship. Yoni Stern rounded out the squad for the winning team. The thrilling victory finished off the amazing 10 game season!

Wrestling
The TABC Storm prides itself on wrestling against the best opponents. They take on both yeshivas and public schools throughout the season. In two recent match-ups, they won one and lost one against strong public school programs.
On December 27, the Storm traveled to DRS to take on the Wildcats. TABC won 13 of 14 matches. Winners included Moshe Gutfreund (2 wins), Asher Powers (3 separate wins!), Max Balk, co-captains Ben Antosofsky and Max Schechter, Gabe Greenberg, and Ari Gross.
On January 3, the Storm visited perennial grappling powerhouse Parsippany High School, the reigning North 1 Freedom Division champions. The Spartans won 7 of 11 matches.
But TABC did have reasons to celebrate. Max Schechter continued his winning streak with a pin in the first period, taking his record to 8-0. There were also wins by seniors Asher Powers and Gabe Greenberg, as well as freshman Yosef Kryzman.
