Principal's Message
January 11, 2019
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
There are always so many things happening at OLQP! Students in Pre-K are working with the theme "frozen" and are developing skills as they "build snowmen," play in an igloo, distinguish between hot and cold, and more. Several classes used problem solving skills as they worked together to see which team could build the highest structure. The first graders found caterpillars in the learning garden. They brought them inside so they can observe them as they transform into monarch butterflies. Classes are working on science fair projects: generating ideas, working on project research, setting up experiments, and, in middle school, meeting with mentors who are local scientists and engineers. Eighth graders are developing an economics projects where students work in groups to take a concept from development to market. After school, the robotics team, chess club and PSIA teams are working with their coaches to prepare for their respective competitions. Student enthusiasm, teacher commitment, and parent support enable great things to happen for students at OLQP.
Coming back to school after the Christmas break, we embraced the fact that, liturgically, we are still in the Christmas season. When students entered Marian Hall for prayer on Monday, the Nativity, complete with the Magi, was on the stage. It was the perfect meditation as we celebrated birthdays and talked about the fact that we, just like the Magi, have unique gifts to give Our Lord. The eighth grade class took the leadership role in chalking the doors throughout the school. The students used blessed chalk to write 20+C+M+B+19 above the door. The letters C, M, B have two meanings. They are the initials of the traditional names of the three magi: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. They also abbreviate the Latin words  Christus mansionem benedicat , "May Christ bless the house." The "+" signs represent the cross and 2019 is the year.
Indeed, the days are full at OLQP as we work together "Instilling Knowledge" and "Inspiring Faith" everyday! Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Counting Our Blessings
Thank you to Heritage Bank for installing a projector and screen in Marian Hall. This gift will be enjoyed for years to come and has already enhanced morning prayer.
Coach Manuel and Ms. Wilson for coordinating the spelling bee.
Alumni parent, Sarah Sheldon, for being the caller at the OLQP spelling bee.

Did You Know?
The Best Investment You Will Ever Make!
We hear from our graduates the great things that they are doing. Many of them recognize the foundation and friendships formed at OLQP are determining factors in their success. The time to register for the 2019-2020 school year is now. Please find the necessary documents here.
This year, you are invited to Bridge the Gap. The difference between what is charged in tuition and the true cost of educating a child at OLQP is about $1500. Your tax deductible donation will assist the school in funding tuition assistance, staff discounts, and program enhancements. Thank you for your commitment to OLQP!
News You Can Use....
New OLQP Staff Members
Has your child been greeted in carline by a gentleman who sings "good morning" songs? If so, you have already  seen one of the additions to the OLQP staff. Mr. Goddard joined the OLQP staff on January 4. Mr. Goddard has worked at OLQP during the summer breaks for 16 years. He recently retired from public education and joins us in keeping our facilities in top working order. Welcome, Mr. Goddard!
OLQP also welcomes veteran teacher, Mrs. Betty Steigerwald. Mrs. Steigerwald has taken the reins of the third grade class. She and her class are working on many exciting projects including writing and publishing a book that the third graders will share with younger students. Third grade parents were invited to a "Meet the Teacher" after school on Thursday, Jan. 10. We are blessed to have a teacher with Mrs. Steigerwald's depth of experience and commitment to the mission of OLQP. Welcome, Mrs. Steigerwald!
