ADVOCACY DAY 2019
When: March 18-19, 2019
What: Each year, NAFSA convenes a 2-day event in Washington DC called
Advocacy Day. It is a powerful way for international educators to be heard. As an attendee, you'll share your personal stories and communicate the value of a globally engaged United States via:
Meeting personally with your members of Congress and their staff as scheduled by NAFSA
Influencing new and pending legislation that affects our profession, students, and scholars
Sharing your personal stories and communicating the value of international education
Advocacy Training to enhance your presentation skills
Providing data on how international education impacts economic growth in your states and districts
Region VII is pleased to support 3 travel grants up to $750 each to defray the cost of travel and participation in NAFSA's Advocacy Day, 2019. Travel Grant applications closed January 8th.
Notification: Awardees will be notified by Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in time to register for the Advocacy Day early bird rate, which expires, Tuesday, January 22, 2019.

USCIS To Discontinue Email Boxes for Service Centers
On January 21st, 2019 USCIS will discontinue he service center e-mail boxes for case-specific questions. The following email boxes will be discontinued.
You are encouraged to visit the USCIS website for more details about this discontinuation and guidance on how to seek assistance on your case.
PLEASE: Continue to submit case issues and those with no clear resolution to NAFSA's "IssueNet Report An Issue" so that we can track trends and provide liaison help.

SOUTH CAROLINA
South Carolina Association of International Educators (SCAIE)
Registration is OPEN for SCAIE's state conference on February 1st at Charleston Southern University. A pre-conference workshop on F-1 Visa advising will take place January 31st. Please visit the SCAIE website for all the details.
FLORIDA
Florida Association of International Educators (FAIE)
Registration is OPEN for FAIE's 2019 Annual State Conference at Florida International University, February 21-22, 2019 in beautiful Miami! Please visit the

GEORGIA
Georgia Association of International Educators (GAIE)
Registration is OPEN for Georgia Association of International Educator's (GAIE) Winter Conference 2019 in Savannah, GA, Jan. 30 - Feb. 1, 2019. Please visit the
GAIE website for more details, session submissions, and the registration form.
Georgia International Leadership Conference (GILC)
Feb. 22-24, 2019. GILC is a weekend student conference primarily focused on bringing together international students and study abroad students (both those returned from, going or interesting in going abroad) from across the state of Georgia. All institutions are invited to send students with a chaperone. See website for details. Registration opens January 15 - February 15, 2019.
