Congratulations!
Ambassador Domingos Fezas Vital
Receives the 2018 Economic Diplomat of the Year Award
PALCUS extends congratulations to His Excellency Domingos Fezas Vital, Ambassador of Portugal to the United States.
Ambassador Vital has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Economic Diplomat of the Year Award.
The award, determined by jury selection process, is attributed annually by the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This year's presentation ceremony took place on January 3, in Lisbon.
The jury particularly highlighted "the successful work of the ambassador with the United States Department of Commerce to reverse "antidumping fees for Portuguese companies" and "his relevant role in the successful preparation of the Month of Portugal in the United States in June 2018," which was attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the Prime Minister, António Costa.
Congratulations, Mr. Ambassador!

2020 U.S. CENSUS UPDATE: Make Portuguese Count™ Update
PALCUS Make Portuguese Count™ AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS
PALCUS is pleased to announce that the following organizations have registered as PALCUS Affiliated Organizations for the Make Portuguese Count™ Campaign.
More organizations are coming onboard.
Won't you join us?
PALCUS is calling on over 500 Portuguese-American civic, social and faith-based groups and organizations to join with us in establishing a nationwide network that will help us work together in mobilizing our community to be counted in 2020.
PALCUS will provide information, materials and support through a regional captain while the organization agrees to work with us to create a unified message and instructions for completing the 2020 Census questionnaire.

1) To secure your permission for working with us and to share your link;
2) To verify your correct contact information to send campaign materials;

"Maria's Portuguese Table" Screens in New Bedford

Maria Lawton, author of "
Azorean Cooking, From My Family Table To Yours", screened the first two episodes of her travel and cooking show,
"Maria's Portuguese Table" on December 27, 2018 at the New Bedford Whaling Museum to a full house of family, friends and well-wishers. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive!
Born on the island of São Miguel, Maria immigrated to the United States at the age of six. She brings to her cooking and her show the heart of her experiences growing up with satisfying Azorean dishes and family warmth from her mother's kitchen. Episodes were filmed in Rhode Island, California and the Azores.
The 8 episode series will air on Rhode Island PBS on four consecutive Fridays (two episodes per date). Once the full schedule has aired, the series will be available nationally on select PBS outlets. Watch for announcements.

Congratulations to Morais Vineyards for being named one of Washingtonian Magazine's Best Wedding Venues.
The Morais family has been making wine for over a hundred years. In Portugal, the heritage of wine making has been passed down from generation to generation. Joining this age old family tradition with Virginia's rich history of winemaking, the Morais family has built a legacy which has become an area landmark.

The New York Times featured an article on Sousa Mendes visa recipient
Dr. Sylvain Bromberger, former Board member of the Sousa Mendes Foundation, who died earlier this year. Bromberger was a Professor of Philosophy at MIT with a witty and warm personality. It was his crusade to make the story of Aristides de Sousa Mendes better known because his parents had lived and died without any idea of the story of their survival.
"Most people who were saved by Sousa Mendes don't know that they were saved by Sousa Mendes," he stated at our of our events.

Strong membership participation means a stronger voice in the national Portuguese-American agenda. In order to advance Portuguese language education, increase presence in the congressional caucuses, and provide economic opportunities, the collective voice of thousands is needed!
In addition, PALCUS is a member-driven non-profit organization that depends on membership dues and fundraising events to fund its operations.
Members of the all-volunteer board of directors donate their time and personal funds for travel, lodging and tickets to attend networking events and planning sessions so our administrative costs are relatively low but nonetheless critical to doing business on a daily basis.

PALCUS Mission
In order to create a singular voice to advocate for the Portuguese-American and Luso-American communities at large, the Portuguese-American Leadership Council of the United States Inc. (PALCUS) was founded in 1991 as a non-partisan, non-profit, organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.
The PALCUS mission is to address domestic and international concerns of the Portuguese-American Community.
The Council conducts an expanding program of educational and public affairs activities on issues of interest to the Portuguese-American community and of salience to the Luso-American Relationship.
PALCUS is committed to serving the community through increasingly active government relations efforts, the promotion of a greater awareness of ethnic accomplishments and encouraging stronger ties between Portugal and the United States. In this role PALCUS advances the community professionally, politically and culturally while working to ensure that issues directly affecting our community are addressed through our network of government and community leaders.
PALCUS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the IRS tax code and incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia. Donations are tax deductible to extent allowed by law and will be acknowledged.
