NEW!   Leopard Life Skill for February - Zest!
Since we returned from winter break, our little leopards have been learning about the value of "G"enerating "R"elentless "I"nner "T"oughness. They've been "gettin' gritty with it" by pushing hard to persevere even when it's difficult. The term "Grit" is now a common term used throughout classrooms as we encourage our students to view their setbacks and failures as opportunities for progress and growth. Over time, we hope to help students discover the benefits of persistence in the pursuit of their goals.
Well, now that the cold, dreary days of winter are upon us, we all could use a little burst of energy and enthusiasm. That brings us to our next Leopard Life Skill for the month of February, "Zest." When people first hear the word "zest," they may think of lemons or even the soap, with the catchy old commercial about being "zestfully" clean ☺. In the same way that lemon zest provides a burst of flavor in dishes, or Zest soap invigorates the spirit, living with zest brings a renewed excitement and enthusiasm to everyday activities.  Unfortunately, too many adults and youth are suppressed by the demands and stress of everyday life and they end up being disengaged, bored, and unmotivated. However, there are some people who seem to have more passion and approach each day with optimism and gusto. The difference between these two types of peoples is "zest." Zest - also referred to as vitality - is an approach to life that is filled with excitement, energy, and enthusiasm. Our students will be taught about the benefits of shifting their attitudes and living with more zest so they can derive more enjoyment out of life and learning. We know that most kids have enthusiasm for something. Therefore, we want to find out what that something is so we can harness that energy and help them view their world with wonder and excitement.
If you would like more information about the nine character strengths, skills, and mindsets on which our Leopard Life Skills are based, you can visit their website at www.characterlab.org . You are also welcome to contact me at any time if you have any questions. We appreciate your support in helping our leopards develop a little "Z"any "E"nthusiastic "S"pice of "T"oday!

Lovejoy Student Hosts Toy Drive
Lovejoy High School Freshman, Katie Berman, requests your assistance with a toy drive she is organizing to benefit Ready Fighter One. Following you will find information from Katie:

"My plan is to host a toy drive from February 4 - 15. We are collecting items to donate to hospitals that treat children's cancer. Ready Fighter One was my friend MJ's last wish. MJ was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, and passed away on the 11th. We are collecting:

Video Games
Playstations
Xboxes
DVDs
Toys
Board Games

Boxes for donations will be located at all campuses. MJ's school would not allow us to host the drive. I thought the next best thing would be to host it at Lovejoy. My team and I would handle all the details all we need is your support and time."

For additional information please contact [email protected] .
