A WEEK IN REVIEW
Office of the City Manager
Bob Ryan, Public Services Director and Scott Somers, City Manager attended an emergency management table top exercise with area Chief Adminstrative Officers, public health officials and emergency managers.

The City manager attended a "ribbon cutting" event to celebrate the new Downton College Park mural called "Psychophily – Pollination by Butterfly." The event was attended by t he Partnership (CPCUP), the University of Maryland (UMD), and Prince George's County.  The mural helps to highlight the City's newly embraced focus and priority on supporting butterfly and bee habitat through the planned development of pollinator gardens and educational/informational outreach.

City staff, the City Manager and UMD are finalizing a draft development agreement with the City Hall Project. The agreement will be presented to the City Council to consider approval of the agreement at a future Council meeting.

The City Manager met with City Staff to present, discuss and provide Q&A concerning the new City Hall project.

The City Manager, continued efforts to finalize the Trolley Trail at Berwyn Rd. and Rhode Island. A draft agreement is being finalized and will be presented to the City Council for consideration in the near future.
Department of Public Works
Curbside leaf collection has begun: Click here for details. Curbside Leaf Collection has started and runs through early January depending on weather conditions. During Curbside Leaf Collection weekly yard waste collections on regular trash collection days are suspended. Look for signs posted in your neighborhood in advance of the scheduled collection dates. The collection calendar posted online will be updated as the collection schedule changes, so check the website for the latest schedule.

TIPS – THE DO’S AND DON’TS OF LEAF COLLECTION!
  • Bagging is not necessary during leaf collection with vacuums. Grass can be included in your leaf piles, but no sticks, branches, vines, or woody materials (as these items require a special collection).
  • Rake leaves to the curb but do not put them in the street. Pile leaves away from cars and storm drains as the leaf vacuum cannot reach around cars.
  • Remove tree limbs, rocks, trash, and other debris from leaves to be collected. These items damage the equipment and cause delays.
  • Noise and dust may be noticeable as dry conditions generate more dust. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  • If you put your soft yard waste (grass, leaves and weeds) in bags or containers they will only be collected when the leaf vacuum is scheduled to be in your neighborhood. Weekly yard waste collections on regular trash collection days are suspended during curbside leaf collection period.

Regular weekly collection of soft yard waste is suspended for the season during curbside leaf collection.

Curbside leaf collection is in full swing. The following neighborhoods will be collected the week of Nov 12-15: Finish SA4-Lakeland and Berwyn; SA8-College Park Woods, Crystal Springs, Acredale and Patricia Court; SA5-Autoville, Cherry Hill and begin Rhode Island West.

Did you know you can compost pumpkins? Pumpkins compost best when they are cut or smashed, you can then put them in your backyard compost bin, or bring them to the Food Scrap drop off location at Public Works. Look for the yellow carts.

If you would like to start diverting your food scraps, we have 5-gallon food scrap buckets available at the Department during regular business hours. The buckets are useful to transport collected food scraps to the drop off location.
