Are You Ready for National Novel Writing Month?
November is once again upon us, and that means thousands of you will be taking part in National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days--or, if that seems overly ambitious, to give yourself regular writing dates to start a book or make progress on your work-in-progress. To help you on your journey, the Writers' League is hosting some great events. Whether you live in Austin or anywhere across the state of Texas (or beyond), we've got something planned for you.
And if you're not participating in NaNoWriMo or not writing a novel, you'll find that all of these events will help you regardless of where you're at in your project.

Are you worried about running out of steam before the month of November ends? Have you started novels in the past and given up before reaching the last page? Or, are you stuck in your current novel? In this special presentation, three authors (including Program Director Michael Noll) will introduce exercises for firing up your imagination and keeping it running when the ideas run low. Expect to walk away with inspiration and practical tips.

No Program, Just Time and Quiet to Write.
The Writers' League has reserved a room at the Austin Public Library's new Central Library for five dates. If attendance overflows the room, you will be able to write in the reading room (utter quiet, lots of wood!) or anywhere else you like. You can RSVP to receive a reminder email by clicking on the date(s) you wish to attend. Based on response, the WLT may reserve additional rooms.

NaNoWriMo ONLINE CLASS PACKAGE
The National Novel Writing Month Online Class Package includes three classes at the normal member rate of $49/class (or $147 total)

Do you feel called to write, but find it almost impossible to sit and face the blank page? This feeling goes by many names: writer's block, resistance, self-doubt, and fear (or we may mislabel it, saying we are just too busy or are natural procrastinators). But no matter what we call it, using various readings and prompts, this class will help you dismantle your personal fears and destructive attitudes and get you writing! This class will offer practical exercises for switching off your critical brain, embracing your creative brain, and generating material.
Registration closes Thursday, October 25, at 5 p.m. CST. Everyone who registers will have access to the class recording for one week.

Here are some of the free, public Texas Writes events coming up this month Each event features two accomplished authors talking about a particular aspect of craft, followed by a discussion about the writing life facilitated by a WLT staffer. There's a chance there will be writing exercises (bring paper and pen) and there will be plenty of time for questions.

Frank Carden's (Las Cruces) novel Billy Bonney Aka The Kid is now available on Amazon. It's the story of Wilma who vengefully killed a deputy. Taking the name William Bonney, wearing men's clothes, she was a major gunman in the Lincoln County War, collecting twenty notches on a .41-Colt. For more information, click here .
Walt Gragg (Georgetown), author of The Red Line, has signed an additional two-book deal with Tom Colgan, Vice President and Editorial Director at Penguin Random House's Berkley imprint. His next novel, tentatively titled The Chosen One, is scheduled for release in the fall of 2019.
Kerry Stevens (Leander) has released his new book, Forever Herself: A Son's Memoir of a Remarkable Woman. It tells the story of a strong woman who embraces life on her terms. Kirkus Reviews praised the book as "beautiful, artistic...engaging." For more information, click here.

Select Few follows seventeen-year-old Julia Jaynes's search for identity and love outside her exclusive circle of highly-evolved humans.
