13,000-square-foot restaurant to open at Sparks Marina. The restaurant expects to hire 140 to 150 people for its team.
Tom Turner, the man opening the restaurant, knows a few things about a dining room with a water view. He's owned the famed Gar Woods Grill & Pier, on Carnelian Bay at Lake Tahoe, for 30 years, and its sister spot, Riva Grill on the Lake in South Lake Tahoe, for 20 years. He also owns Bar of America in Truckee.

"I started to get the itch about three years ago to open a new restaurant," Turner said. "I saw, as a lot of us did, that the Reno-Sparks area was taking off, and I wanted to be part of that growth.

"When I started looking into the area, one factor remained constant: I wanted the next restaurant to be near water if it could be." Turner picked the Marina Town Centre after being introduced to the property about a year ago.

Sparks Water Bar, a 13,000-square-foot bar and restaurant, is planned for two floors of the Marina Town Centre, on the eastern shore of the Sparks Marina. The debut, at 325 Harbour Cove Drive, is scheduled for third quarter 2019.

The restaurant - about 8,000 square feet inside, 5,000 square feet on the terrace - will encompass about three quarters of the first and second floors at the south end of Marina Town Centre. The menu at Sparks Water Bar, Turner said, "will be a mix of our restaurants - Gar Woods, Riva Grill, Bar of America - and we expect to add some new dishes." The three Tahoe restaurants serve lunch and dinner, with a mix of salads and sandwiches and pasta, meat and seafood standards.

The Sparks Water Bar will provide views of the marina and Sierra Nevada mountains, and is perfectly situated in close proximity to the neighboring Outlets at Sparks.

The Water Bar will also serve as a social and dining hub for nearby residents including the newly-developed Waterfront at the Marina Apartments. When completed, the five-story building will feature 209 spacious one and two bedroom apartment homes with resort-style amenities.
