February 5 is the official day of my birth. Many moons ago, the first-born child to Virginia Shockley Creek, age 21 and Joseph Hurshel Creek, age 26 came into the world at 3:10 a.m. on a Friday morning in a Bugtussle, Kentucky suburb. Martha was the oldest of three, the only girl (justification for being bossy), and an interesting dynamic of being the oldest born to parents who were both youngest in their sibling order.
Educated in Gamaliel, Kentucky by some of the finest people to ever walk the world, she was a star student, straight A's, and Salutatorian of her graduating class. She got one "B" in high school. Guess what class it was in? There is a prize if you guess. Send guesses to 502.905.0783 or [email protected].
She enrolled in college summer school straight away, completing as many CLEP courses as was allowed by Western Kentucky University, while working full time.
She was one of three in her large family to ever attend college. Both of her parents quit school, at grade 5 and grade 8. It was monumental to complete high school and to attend college. She graduated college with degrees in Banking/Accounting, Human Resources/Organization Management. She was supported in completing those processes by employers, friends, teachers, colleagues and dancing therapy.
She remains a perpetual student and has completed a myriad of trainings, certifications, education, ordination and beyond, since that time.
She got married in 1978 to the only guy she had ever dated. The "oops" lastest 5 years. This marriage was the first of her "SELF" abandonments... much has been learned in these 58 years.
Stay tuned for the autobiography of Martha Lee Creek, aka Monroe County's Elly Mae Clampett; aka Uppa Creek.
In the meantime, if you are wanting to gift me for my birthday ---- I would love you to "gift" someone in the world in my name. If you're called to share how you paid it forward, please do. TOGETHER WE CAN DO WHAT I CANNOT DO ALONE!
