The directions for use on a prescription label, or the "sig," is crucial information for patient understanding. In the pilot phase of this project, there was a strong desire among pharmacies to improve the sig, but it is an incredibly complex matter and was beyond the scope of that project.

With the expansion of this project, Wisconsin Health Literacy (WHL) created a Sig Improvement Task Force (SITF), consisting of key stakeholders with representatives from Epic Systems, Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, and MCW, as well as providers, pharmacists and pharmacy techs. The first meeting was held in August, in which members discussed the barriers and solutions to improving sigs.

Members will continue to meet over the next several months with the ultimate goal being to develop a plan and incorporate an improved sig into the label redesign implementation process.
