Recently letters were sent sharing information about the district's Family Engagement Survey. We hope you received the information about our continuing school improvement efforts and will take a few minutes to share your feedback by completing the 25 question survey. Surveys provide information which we use in the decision making and planning processes as we begin to prepare for the upcoming school year.
The survey will be open through

Instrument Recruitment
The 3rd grade instrument recruitment process has started in each of the elementary schools! It is an exciting time for our 3rd graders to pick their instrument. Our elementary instrument teachers have been very busy getting started with the 3rd Grade Recruitment!
First, music teachers have a recruitment assembly at each of the elementary schools. The teachers demonstrate each instrument the students can choose from and let the students ask questions about the instruments and the process. Next, students bring home the instrumental sign up sheet. Then as the teachers are able to schedule our new recruits, they travel to each school for a series of hands on days. The hands on day is when the students get to try out and get to play each instrument of their choice.

RS Cool
RS Cool has many gently-used clothing items on the shelves that are free to you. Some of them we have in abundance and others not as much.
Parents may come in the morning before 10:30, between 1:00 and 2:30, or after school until 3:45 to "shop". You can also send a note to the teacher with a list of what your child needs so that we can help them find it if possible and send items home with them.

Fourth Graders Sing With Ithacappella
All Fourth Graders in Cortland Schools came together for a "Building Community Through Music" concert on January 16th. During the day, each school's fourth grade group was visited by some of the members of Ithaca College's singing group, Ithacappella. The college students ran some vocal warm-ups with the kids, listened to their performance song, and then gave feedback to help improve their song. The college students that visited Randall School also gave a little mini lesson on beat-boxing, which the kids loved. In the actual evening concert, each school sang a song that they had chosen and felt represented their school. Randall fourth graders had chosen "Count on Me" as their song. After all of the 5 schools performed their individual songs, all of the fourth graders joined together to sing one final one called "Be Okay" to represent the coming together of all of the schools.

Randall is Recycling Markers!
Randall Elementary School in conjunction with Crayola is recycling used markers, highlighters and dry erase markers. It’s called
Crayola ColorCycle
– an amazing program devised to
re-purpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills.
The ColorCycle program has re-purposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013, and uses the most advanced plastic conversion technologies available today to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles.
Randall students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have at home -- even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included. Drop-off boxes will be located around the school for your child to deposit the markers.
Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can continue to keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.
Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—
