District News:
Human Resource Notice:
Emporia Public Schools Transportation Department is seeking current staff for substitute or activity bus drivers. Available times include before and after school as well as evening and Saturday activities. The district would like to encourage teachers or classified staff who do not work 40 hours a week to contact Amy Larson at [email protected] if they are interested. If you are nearing retirement, remember these extra hours could possibly increase your final average salary which would then increase your total monthly KPERS retirement benefit.

Extended School Year Application:
Extended School Year (ESY) will take place this summer for selected students in the district. You must have a special education endorsement or be working toward one to apply for a teaching position. If you are interested in working this summer, please complete the Extended School Year Application form and submit it by March 1. If you have questions please contact Angela Harris [email protected]

Print Your W-2:
Employees who elected to print their own W-2 Wage and Tax Statements and 1095C Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage forms through Skyward's Employee Access can do so now. Click here for a tutorial. If you did not elect to print your own, your statements will be sent to your building at the end of January.

Human Resources Reminders:
  • February 15th is the deadline to submit a new national board teaching certificate.
  • February 15th is the deadline to submit ESL certification to be included in the March paycheck.

Board vice-president Art Gutierrez and president Mike Crouch share a discussion regarding the board training session.

Board Training
The board participated in a training session designed to help both new and experienced members prepare for key events that occur during the calendar year.  Craig Wilford, leadership services field specialist for Kansas Association of School Boards, facilitated the training that included:
  • board and superintendent relations
  • discussions on board roles and leadership
  • responsibilities that help to keep the board's focus on district and board priorities
  • communication
  • keeping the priorities on district goals and their relationship with KESA
  • conversations regarding the Kansas Open Meeting Act (KOMA) requirements
The two-hour training session allowed board members and Superintendent Case the opportunity to discuss each of the topics and clarify questions and communication opportunities.  Although each board member brings a different voice, everyone agreed that they are here to work as a team and support what is best for the students of Emporia Public Schools.

Future Board Calendar Dates:
  • Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 6:00 p.m., Board Meeting, Mary Herbert Education Center
  • Wednesday, February 27, 2019, 7:00 p.m., Board Meeting, Mary Herbert Education Center
