Courageous Community Conversations Across Difference:
Can we talk about Race?*
This year's Courageous Community Conversations are focused on race and diversity in America. Our reading list and conversations are designed to help us understand many racial and cultural issues, as well as provide a starting point to open up the conversation about race in Goffstown, and hopefully, in other surrounding communities. In our present social environment, it's important to be racially and culturally diverse, and to be socially aware. By using these books to learn and grow, we hope to take part in the conversation about race in America.

Meet Your Library Trustees
|
|
Meet Aimee Huntemann
Library Trustee, Chairperson
I first became a Library Trustee when I lived in Derry after watching the town close my favorite restaurant citing eminent domain. The only thing I loved more about Derry than that restaurant was the tiny Library that I could walk to, one of two Libraries in that town. My inability to help that restaurant led me to research how I could make sure that the little Library I loved didn’t have a similar fate. I decided to run for a position on the board of Trustees.
When I moved to Goffstown, I fell in love with our Library. As soon as I had a utility bill, I signed up for my Library card here. I was lucky enough to have relocated to a town with a Library as welcoming, helpful and warm as the one I left behind. I took a year to get to know the town and the Library and then entered the election again.
My daughter turns six this month and she is so excited that she can finally sign up for her very own Library card. She attends the story time programs and holiday parties and other fun activities and programs that the Library offers her. My husband gets through his commute to MA with the help of audio books he borrows from the Library, online. Last year I read ninety-three books, most of which I borrowed from the Library (online, in person, and via inter-library loan). All three of us are happy to talk about how great we think the Library is and all the unexpected things the Library offers.
The Library is a place to gather, to learn, to grow, to socialize and to try new things. Libraries are equalizers. The Library is a place to get help with a resume and to apply for jobs if you find your circumstances have changed unexpectedly. It is a place to learn a new skill to help you advance your career or find a new one. The Library is a place to ask questions and get help finding answers. It is a place to read, a place to borrow books. The Library is a place to access the internet. It’s the place that I go to knit and chat. It’s where I watch my daughter play and grow and have fun. It’s where I go to learn something new at a program, to make some bad art or just try something with other people in town who wanted to try it too. Our Library is the heart of our community and it is open to all of us.
