YPN Makes Some Noise at The Soundry

Our first event of 2019 is in the books and it was a great way to start the year! Nearly 125 people networked with Howard County's best group of young professionals at the county's hottest new spot for live music. There was a lot of energy in the room and there were a ton of connections made. If this is what 2019 has in store, we say, bring it on!

Check out more pictures from the event here.

We are so close to meeting our goal! 40 amazing members have already signed up to volunteer with the Chamber staff this Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. We are shooting for 50 volunteers in celebration of our 50 years serving the Howard County business community.

We are still working with several of our non-profit members to finalize the projects we will be working on on the 21st, but if you are interested in joining us please register here . Once the details, times and locations are finalized, we will get in touch with volunteers who have signed up!
Opioids, Employment & Business

We are just a couple of weeks away from our first member lunch of 2019, where a panel of experts and business owners will tackle the topic of Opioids, Employment & Business. Join us for this important discussion of how substance abuse is impacting the business community, and how businesses can be part of the solution.

The 2019 Legislative Session is now underway in Annapolis, and Howard County's delegation is made up of many familiar faces, but several new as well. Senator Guy Guzzone is now Maryland's new senate majority leader and is joined in the state senate by two new senators, Katie Fry Hester and Clarence Lam. State delegates representing Howard County this term include Warren Miller, Trent Kittleman, Courtney Watson, Shane Pendergrass, Eric Ebersole, Terri Hill, Vanessa Atterbeary, Jen Terassa and Jessica Feldmark.

Howard County's delegation has already introduced several local bills including one dealing with plastic bag fees and another on guidelines for the election of some school board members. The delegation's members will be hosting a public work session this Saturday morning to discuss these issues as well as school redistricting and the county's adequate public facilities ordinance, but no public testimony will be accepted.

The Chamber will continue to work with our elected officials to ensure the interests of our business community are represented as this session continues. You can read more about the Chamber's policy positions anytime, in our 2019 Issues for Legislative Action here.
