WELL READ | BOOKS WE LOVE
Harry's Trees
by Jon Cohen

This is a delightful, redeeming tale about friendship, loss and finding love in the most surprising places. A modern day “fairy tale,” complete with a mysterious book, heroes and villains, a treasure trove of gold and even a villainous “wolf.” Fans of Gabrielle Zevin’s The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry  Fredrik Backman’s A Man Called Ove are sure to enjoy this book’s charm and relentless good humor – a much needed remedy for these fraught times. (Adult Fiction)

A Noise Downstairs
by Linwood Barclay

A smashing audiobook! This is the first Linwood Barclay book for me and I’m hooked. The story is reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. Barclay has created an intense psychological thriller that blends the twists and turns of Gillian Flynn with the edge-of-your-seat suspense of Harlan Coben. This eerie thriller is superb on audio. A chilling “listen” leading up to Halloween! The Woman's Hour
by Elaine F. Weiss

This book is a true suffrage thriller that reads like the best fiction. Highlighting the power of women’s fight for equality, it dives deep into the fight (over a single summer) to get the stronghold state of Tennessee to ratify the 19 th amendment. A fascinating read, inspiring, and a true testament to the will and drive of the amazing suffragettes. When I go to vote I will be reminded of these women and the battle they fought for my right to do so. (Adult Non-Fiction)

Hey, Kiddo
by Jarrett Krosoczka

Before picking this book up, I knew nothing of the author, his previous works, nor his very popular and widely viewed TED talk. What he presents, in this graphic novel, is a coming of age story of a child with an absent father and an incarcerated and heroin addicted mother. His colorful and offbeat grandparents step in to care for him when his mother no longer can. The graphics do the talking in this heart-wrenching story, with text that is sparse but loaded with emotion. This book broke my heart and put it all back together again and reminded me that I need to pick up graphic novels more often. There’s just something about pairing the emotion of art with the printed word…stunning. (YA Graphic Novel)
